Despite all the swirling talk about the UFC poaching all of Strikeforce’s top fighters, Gilbert Melendez won’t be one of them if that situation comes to fruition. Melendez will be defending his Strikeforce belt in his next bout.

Here is my prediction of Melendez's mma career.

1. Strike Force folds
2. Melendez signs with ufc
3. Suffers 3 straight losses in a row
4. Eventually gets cut

On paper, Melendez may be seated second or third but that is only because Strike Force does not have a stacked LW division like the ufc. IMO, Melendez will lose to LW gate keepers in the ufc.

Here is a list of UFC LW fighters who I think should be able to win against Melendez.

1. Bocek
2. Cerrone
3. Danzig
4. Dunham
5. Edgar
6. Edwards
7. Furgerson
8. Fisher
9. Gomi
10. Guida
11. Guillard
12. Henderson
13. Lauzon
14. Lentz
15. Maynard
16. C Miller
17. J Miller
18. C. Oliveira
19. Pettis
20. Sherk
21. Sotiropulous
22. Stout
23. Tibau

I'm sorry Kungfu, but if you think Tony Ferguson would beat Melendez you're absolutely crazy.

Melendez fought and dominated Guida earlier in his career, and has since improved in all areas of the game.

You should meet Kingsmasher. His opinion is like polar opposite of yours. He thinks Melendez will destroy all the guys in the UFC, and reign as champion for years. I don't agree with either of you, though. lol

I think Ferguson would out-box Melendez.

I said this before - I think Guida will take it the second time around.

It is all opinions. I can't wait for him to come to the ufc. I would be willing to bet a healthy amount against him if he were to face any of the LWs I have mentioned.

This should be a good fight.

Melendez would do well in the UFC IMO. Just have to wait and see though, don't feel like debating it.

I think his wrestling chops are good enough to stop the wrestle-centric fighters from taking it to the ground, and his striking(plus his long reach) is better than most of those wrestlers in question. I think he can sprawl and brawl with most of the juggernaut wrestlers successful. And his bjj defense is also better than most of his counterparts IMO. I think he's the right type of well rounded to excel against a wide spread of opponents.

Personally, i'd take him over Maynard in a heartbeat.

I like you KFM, but your high if you think yves edwards, Bocek, or Danzig even stand a chance. Jim miller, pettis, maynard, and Cerrone IMO have the best chance. It seems like your not giving Gilbert enough credit for his win over Guida. Sure Guidas gotten better, but Melendez has gotten better then Guida. Melendez made Aoki look like an average Jiu-jitsu player

Gilbert would definitely be top 10

maybe top 5, I feel he top 5 now. A lot of people don't think so because he's never graced the octagon with his presence, but he still fights(and wins) against other top lightweights.
