He's already the #9 ranked lightweight in the USA Today / SBN consensus rankings, but he will soon be trying to crush guys in another division. He's done very well at lightweight, but after failing to wrest both the DREAM and Strikeforce lightweight titles, DREAM officials have announced today that Tatsuya Kawajiri will now look to take on new challenges as a featherweight.

He will be making his debut against Joachim Hansen on September 24th, as part of the DREAM.17 card. This will be a rematch of their extremely quick and controversial bout back in 2006, when Kawajiri defended his Shooto welterweight (154 lbs.) title.

I like this fight, I'm a big fan of kawajiri. Hansen isn't a joke tho, coming in with some impressive wins on both sides.

It's a big fight for both guys. Kawajiri is a very unique japanese fighter. He can wrestle and his ground and pound is pretty solid. He also throws big shots on his feet and his sub defense is pretty good. He's also going to be cutting weight here and will help him out in my opinion.

Hansen is a tricky fighter. It seems like every time I pick him to win he loses and every time I pick him to lose he wins. I could definitely see him pull of a SD from his back but I can't help but want to pick Kawajiri. He's solid on top and with 5 minute rounds I think it benefits him. Hansen will have to reset every round, where before he would have had 10 minutes to get something going.

Great fight either way.

This is a great fight. Both guys go balls out and should be a great re-match. I have to go with Kawajiri on this one.

Loser takes Alvarez's spot in the finals against Aoki.

Just kidding, but yeah, i think Kawajiri has his fight in the bag.

I think they both want a title and neither has a chance to get it at LW in either the US or Japan.....so this is a good move for IMO. I like Kawajiri for the KO or UD.

I don't see why Kawajiri would want to drop to 145

the same reason Marquardt was dropping to Welterweight. Bigger Featherweight as opposed to a smaller lightweight.
