Inside MMA has reported that Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem has received a release letter from the promotion. Overeem, one of the original participants in the Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix, pulled out of the tournament after refusing to accept a bout date for the second leg of the tournament in September.
The champion claimed that Strikeforce had originally told him to be ready for an October or November date. After preparing to begin his camp at the start of August, in addition to an injured toe coming out of his fight with Fabricio Werdum, Overeem felt he wouldn't be ready to accept a date so close.

Although I would love to see the Reem fighting in the octagon, I don't think it's going to happen.

There is no evidence he is going to UFC.. if he's released without them already having a contract in front of him i doubt it happens soon.. he fights in other promotions too much for Zuffa's liking i think.. my bet this is all posturing

I don't much care to see him fight after his last fight.
I don't see him coming to the UFC either.

If he comes to the ufc, that would be great, but if he doesn't come to the ufc, that's cool too. Overeem doesn't like to be held down by one promotion, fighting once or twice a year. The ufc likes to keep a tight leash on their fighters. It would be interesting to see that relationship work

Not so sure Reem will be contracted by the ufc. Reem loves K-1 and he enjoys the loose contracts which allow him to fight for almost any organization he chooses with the exception of the ufc of course.
The ufc would have to cough up serious money during the negotiation stages if they want to sign Overeem and to keep him from participating in other orgs and or sports.

this is Dana's (or Zuffa) way of saying hes scared that Overeem will beat his UFC champions. otherwise he would have no problem seeing how he would fare vs Bigfoot...and Barnett if he wins. Overeem likes to fight more than once or twice a year...thats the fight sched of every top end UFC fighter
hopefully im wrong and this is just a way of getting Overeem in the UFC vs Mir or Lesnar to fight the winner of JDS/Velasquez

If Dana was not scared to bring Brock in and have a professional wrestler beat his champions then why would he be scared to bring in Overeem.
