Good news, fight fans.
The UFC will offer a title fight on free television for the first time since Sept. 2007 when Quinton Jackson defended his light heavyweight title against Dan Henderson at UFC 75 on Spike TV.
This time it will be Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz putting his strap on the line against Demetrious Johnson at UFC on Versus 6, which is set for Oct. 1 in Washington D.C.
NBCSports.com brought word of the pending match-up a short time ago.

.....And that my friends, is one way to grow your brand!
So, so, SO stoked for this announcement. I don't think there is a single negative to this announcement. Great fight, great exposure for both fighters and the Bantamweight class in general. Great for the UFC.
Well effing played!

only problem is this could take a large portion of the versus card, b/c I see this going to a decision.
It will be similar to Cruz/Benavidez. CruzUD

Rampage and Hendo unifying the Pride and UFC LHW belts was on Spike. This is the only the second time they have offered a title fight on "free" tv.
I think this fight is on Versus because that's where Dominick Cruz would have been defending his title, were the WEC still around. It is kind of funny how they don't put this fight on UFC 128. The British fans would be STOKED (am I right Rabi, JJeans?), and one would think it might get more exposure being on Spike.
Dana said that Zuffa "owed them one" after spike counter-programmed UFC on Versus 4. Perhaps this is their revenge.

A headhunting Faber showed that Cruz is ultimately hittable and not invincible. Johnson's been out a long time, so he may have made some leaps with his striking. It's entirely possible he'll land that career-changing bomb, but I've got Cruz taking a UD here. Johnson's quickness and lower base may score him a takedown or two, but I think Cruz is too strong and too good of a wrestler at 135 to be held down too long or even taken down too often. And on the feet, I think the smart money is on Mighty Mouse landing little outside of an occasional leg kick while getting jabbed and leg kicked to scoring death.
I'm much, much more excited for the Faber/Bowles fight. I think the winner of that fight can take the belt with a smart gameplan. Faber admitted he was looking too hard for the knockout, and Bowles picked up on it, too, that standing still isn't the way to beat Cruz. Personally I think an elite level muay thai striker with great legkicks and excellent TDD will have Cruz's number, but I think Faber and Bowles have the tools.

This is a GREAT free fight. Demetrius Johnson has the fastest takedowns I've ever seen. In his fight against Kid yamamoto he was slipping under kids punches so fast, yamamoto was on the ground before he was done throwing his punch. But Cruz is not yamamoto, and he has a 5" height and 2" reach advantage to keep Johnson at bay. Since 11 of his 18 wins have gone to a decision, ill take Cruz by UD

I'm hit or miss on this one. Johnson deserves it....I would like to see him beat Cruz, but I dont think he stands a chance.

WEll free title fights are never bad. Not a lot of hype surrounding it but it should be a good scrap. Johnson definatly deserves his shot.
