A heavyweight tilt between heavy handed Frenchman, Cheick Kongo and currently undefeated as a professional mixed martial artist, Matt Mitrione is in the final stages of being completed for the UFC 137 card on October 29th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
MMABay.co.uk was told of the news by a source close to the situation earlier today who added verbal agreements are in place on both sides and the official paperwork would be signed shortly.

Kongo is coming off an impressive come-from-behind win over Pat Barry last time out, getting knocked down in the early stages only to land two massive right hands to turn the tide. It was his first fight back following a long layoff due to injury.

As for Mitrione, his stock continues to rise after he defeated Christian Morecraft via TKO just a couple of weeks ago on the UFC on Versus 4 show. He also holds wins over the likes of “Kimbo Slice” and Joey Beltran.

Sorry but this was moved to the UFC Forum and labeled as a rumor until it's confirmed by a more reputable source. MMABay doesn't have the greatest track record...

Awesome fight if it does happen. I feel like kongo would try to take it down. That's the only success Morecraft had against Mitrione.

I don't think Morecraft had any success against Mitirione in that fight...
I think Mitirione wins this fight standing, he looks better and better every time out.
Would be a sweet fight for pay-per view card...or even a main event on a Fight Night or Versus card.

I thought Kongo would take down Barry.

I think Meathead might take it, I have to question Kongo's chin. Although Kongo is more technical in the striking and does have power to hurt Meathead.

I'd love to see Kongo by a devastating knockout. I have never liked Mitrione really. Maybe its the fact of the casual fans who watch The Ultimate Fighters think he is amazing or maybe it is his attitude I just don't know.

Other than the show Mitrione's attitude has been nothing but likable, IMO. His performance has grown in leaps and bounds. If this goes down..............man it is tough to call. For sure Kongo has the crisper hands but like i said Matt is working hard to learn and is a "natural" striker. He is very relaxed and controled. I will probably go with Mitrione, just on the fact that I really dislike Kongo and think it is that close of a fight!

Agreed 100%. I've actually become a fan of his since the show. I couldn't stand him on TUF.

This is a great matchup and Mitrione is gonna shine. Kongo won't spring back to his feet when Meathead hits him. Matt has better striking, ground game, and a better chin than Kongo. Meathead, R1 KO/TKO.

Just as i thought and hoped

If Kongo doesnt take this down he's getting KO'd, cuz Meat has a chin.

This is pretty much what I would have posted. Supposedly Kongo is a better striker but I have a feeling that if he does not take Meathead down its going to be a long night for Kongo.

this should be a great fight for us fans regardless the outcome. im leaning toward matt it is just a hard pick because matt has been improving so much from fight to fight. so you never know if he is going to hit a plateu or keep improving. i guess he training at extreme coutore for the wrestling. i would like to see matt ground game just to see how he has improve in that area.
