And the UFC had no intention of giving it to him.

When Phil Davis dropped out of his scheduled UFC 133 main event fight against Rashad Evans, a replacement was needed to salvage a fight card that was already lacking in hype to begin with.

Once Tito Ortiz initially turned the fight down (he has since reconsidered), the powers that be put in a call to Brazil to ask Lyoto Machida if he was willing to step in.

Demanding that kind of money was probably not a good idea. I had a feeling Machida wanted to step in if the money was right but apparently his demands were too outrageous.

That is too bad. I really wanted to see Machida back in the title picture.

Anderson makes 200k no win bonus

Tito makes 450k no win bonus

Machida made 200K no win bonus for his fight at UFC 104 and has fought 3 times since then...

Suga made 410k for the rampage fight and 375k for his fight against Thiago Silva

I understand Tito helped build the UFC brand, just like Chuck and Randy and all the other legends.

But Anderson Silva's legacy has now, and will forever, take a dump on Tito's legacy, by comparison. The Spider should be making more than him right now, and should have been probably three years ago.

Maybe he took a pay cut at some point after the Leites and Maia screw job main events. That's the only thing I could think of that would drop his worth. Even then, Ortiz got a $450,000 contract to fight Bader. Going in with a 5 year losing streak. He does not deserve more than Anderson.

This makes me even more sick. The sport I love is slowly but surely turning into what boxing is or was....

I cannot believe Anderson is making less than Tito. Actually I can but I do not like it one bit.

Silva makes a lot more than that. Machida was probably including those backstage bonuses that don't get released. Machida and Silva are close, aren't they? He's probably seen what Silva's getting.

Toss in possible PPV percentages that may be written into Anderson's contract, and he's making a lot more than $200K.

1) it was a 5 year WINLESS streak (there was a draw in there )
2) Tito can sell a fight...Anderson cant. Silva doesn't interact with the fans, refuses to speak the language of the country he is employed in (though everyone else in his camp has a mediocre to good grasp of the English language), and has had 3 very bad performances in the past 3 years. Tito helped build the UFC and gave it a villain they could sell...Silva just quietly knocked people out.

i agree 450k is very high for Tito, but that could still be part of the last contract he signed. Barry Zito is making far more than Justin Verlander is...should the MLB force a change in their contracts? Silva is making 200k + a PPV%, i dont believe Tito gets a PPV cut

Shame Machida didn't take this fight. There would'a been a solid chance of him winning I reckon. But money's what makes the world go round and it screwed this potential fight up. But glad Tito gets the chance to beat Suga now i'm hoping he does anyway.

Thanks for keeping me honest Bubbles

Re: Anderson Silva, he does speak English, and he doesn't need a translator. That is one thing Chael Sonnen actually was right about. He knows English. He can speak English probably as well or better than JDS. He just fronts, and that does piss a lot of people off.

Anderson should be the highest paid fighter in the sport based on his winning streak and most of his performances, with GSP next for the same reasons. Your status, like in every major sport, should dictate what you make. At affliction banned Tim Sylvia made $800,000 while the man that defeated him in 36 seconds, Fedor, made $300,000/$300,000. On same card Andrei Arlovski made $750,000/$500,000. You mean to tell me that at that time, while Fedor was in his invincible era, that bother those guys were worth more then him. I don't think so.
