A fight between Chael Sonnen and Lyoto Machida is all but a done deal.
Sources close to the situation tell Fighters Only that Sonnen will be making his UFC return at light-heavyweight and is almost certain to face the Brazilian former champion.
The fight is apparently being considered for UFC 136, which takes place on October 8th in Houston, Texas. No fights have been announced for that card but Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian are expected to headline.
Machida is a fighter that Sonnen has long had his eye on, and not just because he is a training partner and friend of Sonnen’s favourite smack-talk target Anderson Silva.

hmmm this is interesting. you would think Machida is the clear favourite to win but its kinda hard to count out Sonnen entirely. he proved us wrong against Marquardt, Okami and Silva (for 24 minutes anyways). Machida really hasnt been tested by a power wrestler who isnt out of his prime (Evans turned into a striker). stuffing Shoguns TDs is much different than Sonnens, and at 205 he should be stronger than at 185. dont forget that pressing the action/moving forward = winning the fight
for now i will say Machida by decision, but i may change my mind closer to the fight

Sorry, even if I decide to pick Sonnen, I'd never bet on him...
And if I did and Lost, you couldn't give me a better AV than I currently have
EDIT: For the record, I probably pick Sonnen to win by, what else? Unanimous Decision. He should be able to take Machida down in at least 2 of the rounds and use enough ground control and powder-puff punches to squeak out a victory. Plus, Sonnen can take a beating, and I don't see Machida finishing him.
THe X-Factor is Machida's guard, because he may be forced to win from here, and fighters with a sick guard like Maia, Silva, Horn, Filho and Babalu have shown that Sonnen is vulnerable to submissions. However, I will go out on a limb and say Machida won't submit Sonnen from his back.
Therefore, Sonnen by UD

I didn't think this fight would ever happen, but I don't see chael being quick enough, because he is slower and i hate him.

I say Sonnen takes first 2 rounds and then takes down Machida in the 3rd round and Machida gets a submission victory

This is a great fight and even though I love Chael Sonnen, I'm taking Machida by round 2 ko. Honestly though, I feel that going back up to 205 is a terrible move for Chael.

it will either be a machida finish or a sonnen decision.
If it goes the distance either machida evaded the whole time and the judges will give it to sonnen or machida was pounded into the ground for 3 rounds and couldnt secure a sub.

Looks like the war of words has started:
Via Chael Sonnen's Twitter account:
"Happy 4th of July, where we celebrate our domination over Brazil...Wait, that's every day"
"Lyoto, don't feel bad that you don't have the belt. You still have that little cotton one my nephew has."
"Of course your sport should be taken seriously. Everybody would like to be able to workout in there bathrobe."
"I don't seek training advice from actors for the same reason I don't seek health advice from strippers."
Ho boy, here we go again

Two questions:
1) Why the hell would Sonnen go back to LHW?
2) In what way does this fight clear up the title picture in that division?
