Highly sought-after Swedish prospect Papy “Makambo” Abedi has signed with the UFC.

Abedi’s manager, Manos Terzitane, Sunday confirmed to Sherdog.com that the 32-year-old judo black belt has inked a four-fight deal with the American promotion.

The Kongo-born fighter stands undefeated at 8-0 and has posted finishes in all but one of his fights, including five knockouts and two submissions. Despite previously competing at middleweight, Terzitane told Sherdog.com that Abedi will drop to 170 pounds for his Octagon debut.

Solid signing. He could be a beast at 170. I'm interested to see who he'll be matched up against.

Damn he's 32, he better hurry up he's pretty much in his prime. I expect them to give him a pretty solid journeyman to try to break him out fast hopefully.

I've heard good things about him, but I honestly haven't watched any fights so I hope he lives up to the hype.

Should fight at 170.. then read the link.. glad he's fighting at 170.

Pretty good skills some striking clinch/top game ability. I think hes probably on par with a guy like Rich Antonitto IMO.

Kongo-born

Is this a typo, or is he somehow born of Cheick Kongo?

I love seeing judo players in MMA.
