Mauricio Shogun Rua has told ESPN that he believes stomps should be made legal in the UFC.

Former Pride star Shogun has spent the majority of his career in competitions permitting stomps, and he is a huge advocate of that particular weapon.

The UFC had to outlaw the technique in order to bring the sport of MMA into the mainstream, a move Rua completely understands as president Dana White continues to take the sport into new territories.

Wandy and Shogun were all about the soccer kicks and stomps. Personally I don't think stomps are necessary but they sure are fun to watch.

Yeah, I agree Budgellism. I do miss the old Pride days when fighters could soccer kick the hell out of someone too. Like many others have said, I do wish knees to a grounded opponent would come back though.

Damn straight this needs to happen. But knees to the head first but I'd prefer both. its the only way you can really neutralize these wrestlers since their isn't no yellow cards.

Let 'em fight. If the fighter is in a position where he can get kicked in the head, he should get kicked in the head. If a kick is legal, the position of the opponent shouldn't matter. Kicks to the head of a grounded opponent have been part of MMA in Brazil and Japan for years, and I have yet to ever see anything that showed that those techniques have led to more numerous or more serious injuries. In fact, most of the brain injuries in sports don't come from one devastating blow, but rather sustained, repeated blows.

I am a full believer in soccer kicks, stomps, and knees to the head, I've been watching this sport since the old days and myself yearning for a real fair fight once in a while.

This. It will never happen. Especially as long as these fights are held in an octagon. A well placed kick or stomp with a persons neck positioned right against the wall of the cage and it will snap. For safety reasons it will not happen. For sanctioning reasons, it will never happen.

That has never happened. For Sanctioning reasons, it will not happen. Safety Reasons? Humbug.

I don't see it happening either. It definitely would make things more interesting though. If Dan Henderson's indian death fire punch didn't kill Bisping, than I don't think a stomp to the head would be any worse.

But I don't see it happening. every time a guy puts his hand down to bait a downed knee it upsets me. That alone should warrant someone getting blasted because instead of protecting ones self they are making the fight more boring IMO.

Personally I hope this never happens. 1. No reason to make the sport look more barbaric then people say it is. 2. Personally stomps dont take any technique, and personally I won't want to risk fighters safety for,a little more action on the ground.
