My friend turned to me after the final bell and said, "This is going to be close." I felt confident the judges would award last night's Strikeforce main event to Alistair Overeem, though I also expected the numbers to show Werdum with the advantage in volume striking. Werdum was hurt by his flopping and butt-scooting, not only because it's a passive action that looks bad in judges' eyes, but many of his flops coincided with Overeem punches, garnering a similar reaction as NBA and soccer players diving for fouls, only in reverse.

I gave Werdum the 1st round but Overeem 2 & 3. The main problem with Overeem was definitely the lack of the jab. All Werdum was had to watch out for all the haymakers which was all Overeem through so Werdum was actually able to control range. If Overeem had a jab he could have taken him out. But Werdum telegraphed every one of his haymakers.

I feel like the real robbery was the Almedia fight. No less then 5 submission attempts in that 1st round and 1 submission lasted 2 minutes. Same with the 3rd round with that armbar. Like are you kidding me?

yeah i thought the same. i actually wasnt very impressed with overeems standup. i know hes got good standup but it seemed like he was just looking to knockout werdum but when that didnt happen he didnt start fighting any smarter he just continued to throw those big pointless haymakers. very agrivating for me as an overeem fan

^ Please enlighten me what did Overeem do in the 1st that earned him the 1st? He landed more in the 2nd & 3rd rounds. He hardly landed anything if anything in the 1st.

Overeem really didn't impress me Werdum striking actually looked like it improved I wish he would of stood up more... instead of falling to the ground every second pulling a leites

I really think Werdum threw that fight away with his bad game plan. I don't know what he was hoping to gain from trying to take him down so often and pull guard, when he actually stood and threw punches he did a really good job at landing and showed his striking has improved big time since the JDS fight.

It looked like having to get up every 15 seconds did more to his cardio than anything else in the fight lol.

I gave Werdum rounds 1 and 3. I think he was robbed. The MMA scoring system is whacked and the MMA judges are ignorant! Another BS decision. No surprise. I think the judges are ruining the sport and they are also ruining the careers of many great fighters. I don't think there is enough draws in MMA.

The problem was the flopping on his back and begging Overeem to get into his guard.

I actually scored all 3 rounds for Overeem the first time I watched it, I guess I was too thrown off by his Thales Leites impression to notice the strikes he was landing.

Since he would often drop down right when Overeem engaged I could see the judges even scoring a couple of those knockdowns.

All the striking he did in the first round was undone by this right here.

someone should tell Werdum wrestling is more effective for getting a fight to the ground than prayer or begging.

stuffing every single takedown, and actually scored 2 himself. if we say the striking was even, or even slightly in favour of Werdum, how the hell did Werdum win the round?

Werdum was his own worst enemy in that fight.
The strikes he was landing where great, though you could just tell he wasn't comfertable in that posistion and that's really ashame considering he proabably had a better shot of winning standing up.

all i know that all of this BS could have been stopped if there were soccer kicks in StrikeForce, hell in any US MMA event Werdum would have thought twice about falling to his back every time he got hurt.
