DALLAS – Who's that guy sitting at the Strikeforce podium?

It's heavyweight Brett Rogers. You might do a double take after you see him – not just for the bright yellow T-shirt and fire-engine red shoes he sports. Something is different. He's a bit more, well, svelte.

As Rogers (11-2 MMA, 2-2 SF) said today, it's not just a full training camp that's shed the pounds. It's a new diet, which he said is one more step in being a "top to bottom" good athlete.

I'm having this crazy feeling in my stomach, the same thing I got before he knocked out Arlovski. I realize he's a heavy handed brawler pretty much and it was almost impossible for him to beat a K-1 level striker in Overeem. They threw him right in there with the Lions but he gave Fedor hell, had a hell of a training camp.

If that same Rogers that fought Fedor comes into this fight I could see him maybe knocking Barnett out since Barnett hasn't fought in forever. I don't know If I want to change my pick or not ha, I'm just not counting him out right now.

I agree with you.
I'm still picking Barnett because much like his fight with Yvel I don't think he's going to stay on his feet too long, but Rogers is a complete brute and if Barnett does win this fight I think it will be a hard fought victory.

I actually changed my pick to Rogers a few days before because of that same feeling. I don't know about this one though. Barnett can take a shot and he's the much better fighter. The layoff could hurt him but I just can't see Rogers doing it.

Rogers does not have to learn much to become a true contender. He is a big heavy weight fighter. All he needs to do is learn some take down defense techniques and keep working on his stand up. A little sub defense training would not hurt either but those two prior elements should be enough to take him to the next step in his mma career.

A well rounded Rogers would be awesome but let us face it - it is difficult to learn all these techniques and apply them in the ring. What he needs to do is focus on his strengths by continuing to learn the fundamentals of the stand up and work on his take down defense.

What I have seen from Rogers is an immature fighter. By immature, I mean he has not developed the concept of competition. He let Fedor humbled him and put fear in him and it was very evident when he fought Overeem. Rogers needs to erase those horrible losses and move on like most mature fighters.

Until he wins the battle within himself, he will not be able to fight to his full potentials.

Rogers reminds me of Cro Cop. Once the man tasted what fear felt like, the man was done.

I see Barney taking this pretty easy. True Josh hasn't fought since july of last year but Brett last fought in october of last year so he has had a layoff as well. I didn't see Bretts last fight but I remember hearing he was gifted a win and the guy he fought Ruben Villareal is 19-21-3.
