this is a long term war within a few friends of mine....on one side you have a hardcore band in slipknot(which at this point is finished) and a mainstream band in stone sour. both have the same singer... but which is better. im a mainstream guy and will always vote for likewise...

slipknot reigns supreme. amazing in concert. cory is a badass singer in both bands but if youve listened to the "Iowa" album, the choice is a no brainer.

Slipknot is one of the few metal bands I enjoy.

I'm not really a big fan of either band. From that genre, I would go with System of a Down.

I would hardly call Slipknot a hardcore band. They're Nu-Metal. Hardcore are bands like: Judge, Slapshot, Bane, 108, Youth Of Today, and Warzone.
But to the thread subject, I don't care for either, but if I had a gun held to my head, Stone Sour.

I am a fan of pretty much ALL things music. Evidence of this is my cd case which holds 352 cds, and it is full, and I'm using any other cd cases I can find to hold me off until I get another one of those. I love slipknot, and I love Stone Sour, and I actually just saw the latter of those in concert about 4 weeks ago, and they delivered an amazing performance. It all depends on what you're in the mood for. If you're in the mood to head bang and vent some pent up aggression through music, then Slipknots the way to go, but if you want to listen to something more romantic (i.e. Say You'll haunt me), or more often than not depressing (i.e. bother), then you listen to Stone Sour. That's not to say that Slipknot can't be depressing, if you don't believe me, listen to snuff. For me though, it's a toss up. I can't pick which one I like more, and I have all of both of their cds and have listened to each of them a million times. A band that I will ALWAYS pick over any other band though, is Disturbed!

Slipknot. I stopped listening to them after Iowa though. That album was easily the hardest, best album they did. Anyone listen to Down the Sun? (I think that was their name) It was a side project with the clown from Slipknot. They had a pretty decent album.
Scandinavian Metal 4 Life!
Darkthrone, Satyricon, Old Man's Child, Dimmu Borgir, Amon Amarth, Finntroll, Dark Funeral, Bathory, Emperor, Myrkskog, Zyklon, Borknagar, Tyr, Helritt, Vintersorg, Dissection

I would prop you but I've apparently got to spread the love. I must say though, as a music enthusiast (though my love for music borders on unhealthy obsession), seeing that list of so many great black metal (a genre of metal pretty much exclusive to europe), borders on a religious experience for me. lol
