Perhaps the third time will indeed be the charm for Kenny Florian.

Fresh off his winning 145-pound debut over Diego Nunes at UFC 131 this past weekend, the former two-time lightweight number one contender was "more than likely" assured a title shot against division champion Jose Aldo.

It appears word travels fast back to Brazil.

I like kenny i really do, i just don't see him holding a belt.. He is a great fighter and great number 1 contender he just cannot ever seem to be the guy at the top. he is a very solid number 2

I disagree Jose.....I don't see it being a 'tough' fight at all.

Tough to hold back his joy from another successful title defense!

I like Kenny too. I really like him. I thought when he was going up against BJ, he had a chance. Kenny can be a destroyer! But.... I don't think Featherweight is the answer. He got rocked almost every time his chin got touched against Nunes.

I would never call Kenny a gatekeeper. If I were to put it in to the perspective of baseball.... He gets in to the hall of fame as one of the greats who never won it all.

Personally, I always prefer a 'solid' number 2.

Don't count Kenny out of this fight, seriously. I think the reason he got dropped is he was adjusting to the speed difference. Lightweight is a fast pace, but once you got down to those deep WEC weights the speed in ridiculous.

You can never count Kenny out especially since Aldo isn't a wrestler. It's going to be a damn good fight and I expect fireworks just like we saw in the Homminick fight.

Mendes would be a tougher fight.

Kenny is kinda one of those guys, like Fitch, just kinda can't beat that top guy. Plus Kenny is not a young guy now.

I see the fight going similar to Aldo vs Faber, but maybe earlier finish.

I honestly felt Florian gave Penn too much respect in their fight. With that being said, I too think he has the tools to beat Aldo. It will be tough to avoid all of Aldo's strikes in the stand up department but it can be done.

Aldo is a big 145 pounder and I don't even know if Florian can get the fight to the ground. Whether he can or not, it will be a tough fight for Florian.

I like to see Florian use the octagon and move around and not allow Aldo to set. I like for Florian to make Aldo come to him - frustrate the champion by shadow boxing and carefully choosing when to engage. I would like for Florian to do this in the entirety of the first round.

In the second round, I would like Florian to utilize the cage as he did in the first but this time, he will be looking for the take downs. Be the first to throw and never let Aldo set. Be the aggressor and throw combinations - followed by clinching.

When Aldo is obviously becoming aggressive, the take down opportunities will open up. When Aldo advances forward more abruptly, this is the perfect time to look for take downs.

If everything goes according to plan, we may have a new champion. Florian is a very smart fighter. He will have done all his homework and it is just a matter of executing it to perfection.

I can name three fighters who I think are the best at studying how to win fights effectively...and their names are GSP, Florian, and Couture.

I thought Florian used the wrong game plan against BJ. He tried what GSP did by wearing Penn down on the cage, but forgot that Georges is huge by comparison and it ended up taking more out of Kenny than BJ by the end. He should have used his speed more. I think this move down has pros and cons, he did have a bit of traffic between him and the champ, but if he could have beaten a Henderson, or Pettis he could have been right back up there. He does get a quick title shot by moving down, but I believe against a less beatable champ.

I think Kenny is probably the biggest test of Aldo's career so far but I don't expect Kenny to do much unless he survives the first couple of rounds.

Kenny Florian would not have beaten BJ Penn that day, regardless of strategy/tactics.
