Two-time UFC lightweight title-challenger Kenny Florian admits his first cut to 145 pounds was a challenge.
In fact, after being forced to cut down from a beginning weight of more than 180 pounds, Florian (15-5 MMA, 12-4 UFC) wondered if fighting in a fourth weight class was perhaps one too many.
But following a victory over Diego Nunes (16-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 131 co-main event on pay-per-view, he appears to have what he wanted all along: another shot at the title.

I thought Kenny looked pretty good at 145..... but...
To me, it seemed like the only punches Nunes connected with were when he rocked Kenny at the end of the first and third. And it seemed like those punches hurt Kenny bad.
I don't know if that speaks more to the power of Nunes, or Kenny being emaciated at Featherweight. He didn't look terribly bad, build or performance wise, but just the way he got cracked makes me wonder if he has enough meat on his bones at this weight class to withstand a more evenly matched fight, say, against Jose Aldo or Chad Mendes, or even Tyson Griffin.

I don't agree with Florian getting a title shot after 1 fight at 145.
But let him face Aldo and see what happens. Aldo TKO

I agree gentleman. Hell, I was wondering what would happen if Kenny fought Mendes. I don't know that he would win that fight either. Mendes is a stout 145'er, I could see him rag dolling Kenny and putting some elbows in his face.

I agree also. I'm not sure if he belongs, the 2nd fight always let's use know though. It seemed like he was lucky enough for Nunes to gas and that's how he won that fight. I'm not sure if he can beat the top wrestlers at 145. I think Mendes would grind him out right now, but like I said the 2nd fight always tells us. So hopefully he fights a good wrestler and works on that takedown defense.
Also I don't think he's use to the speed since he got caught with him punches. Hopefully he adjust or Aldo's gonna knock him out something bad.

He will get a title shot. He always does. Then when he loses to Aldo he will drop to 125 and start saying that with one win he will deserve a title shot.

My friends and I were joking around during this fight and said that if Featherweight doesn't see Florian winning a title he will drop to Bantam and put Cruz on notice.
My friend responded with "if that doesn't work out he's gonna drop to 125 when they create it and fight for their vacant title."
Florian looked good at 145, but I really believe that's he's only ever going to be a gate-keeper. Unless Aldo decides to move up to 155, or he loses to someone unexpected, I cannot see Florian wrestling the title from his grasp. He's a good fighter, there's just always someone better than him unfortunately.

after seeing Nunez rock Kenny with the only 2 significant strikes he landed, i think Leonard Garcia can finish Kenny.
kidding aside, Mendes will ragdoll Kenny, Hominick will batter him, and Aldo will have a field day.

IMO Kenny will always be the guy you got to beat to get the title shot hes not so much a gate keeper cause he is better then that but he will always be the Fitch of his weight class, top end fighter that will just never hold a belt
