There's a celebration going on in the Land of Fagan today. Both Kevin Iole and Brett Okamoto report via Twitter that UFC President Dana White announced that, going forward, all UFC main events will be scheduled for five rounds, regardless of whether a title is at stake. The policy will start following the Rashad Evans/Phil Davis main event at UFC 133, as bout agreements for that fight have already been signed.

There's been no word on whether this applies only PPV/numbered events, or if free TV shows will be headlined by five-rounders as well.

Finally! I remember years ago when White said this wouldn't happen (or that he wasn't a fan of it, can't remember which).

If you're main-eventing, chances are you're at least in the talks for title contention and you should get some 5 round experience.

I can't even begin to think of how many 3 round main events should've gone two more rounds.

This is great news

It is a good step in the right direction. I would also like to see number one contention fights to be 5 rounders as well regardless if it is a main event or not.

So Rashard/Davis isn't a five-rounder? Whew, I didn't want to see five rounds of that.

If they do start it the event after 133; I guess that makes Hardy/Lytle the first 5 round non-title fight in UFC history?

With this announcement, I now would definitely prefer Jim Miller vs. Ben Henderson to be the main event on that card instead of the co-main.

Well that's good
Makes main event more interesting.
I mean rampage vs hamill. Another two rounds I could see rampage knocking him out

Not really if they could do it I would say all ufc level fights should be 5 rounds. Time clearly would be the issue. I would have no problem with 7 round title fights but agian time is an issue
