Fresh off his win over top contender Thiago Alves at UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill, Story took a couple days to rest, went back into training, and jumped at the opportunity to get right back into preparing for a fight by accepting a bout with former middleweight title contender Nate Marquardt. The bout will take place at UFC on Versus 4 on June 26.
Accepting a fight against top competition usually entails several weeks of training camp leading into the bout. Story, however, embraces jumping right into another marquee fight after having earned the biggest win of his career.

Good for Rick Story! I think Marquardt is a great fight for him, and is just as big of a marquee fight as Fitch...and I don't really care for Fitch's comments about only fighting people that have held or are holding a belt. I'm a Fitch fan, but dude, you better fight whoever Joe Silva puts in front of you, before you get put on the back burner like Rashad Evans. All that "won't fight my teammates" stuff came back to haunt Suga, and Fitch has already stated the same. So now Fitch won't fight 2 of the Top 10 in his division? (Kos, Story) You're a fighter, get your ass in there and do it!

Top guys should learn a thing or two from guys like Rick Story and Chris Leben. Stop taking 6 months to train, fighting only once or twice a year and just get in the GD cage and fight.

i wonder how ANY of the current fighers would cope if it was still like it was back in the day... when you had to fight 3-4 times a night to get the prize money and you had no idea who you were going to be fighting.

I would love to see UFC organize a 1 night tournament event like they originally started with.

Is anyone else like me? I am finding it difficult to make a prediction on this fight.
Usually I have all the answers .....but this fight is so evenly matched.
Marquardt is a veteran who is still relatively young and he has heavy hands.
Story is young and hungry but he is not exactly a take down specialist.
In a scenario like this, my biased opinion would shine through but because I am not a fan of both fighters, it makes it that much more difficult to pick a winner.

I say Marquardt by UNAM DEC....as long as he makes the weight cut ok....Nate has a little crisper striking, and should be able to counter Story's wrestling and keep it standing

That is true. Nate is a big guy for the middle weight division. I will have to make my prediction after the weigh-ins then...

imo, Marquardt will win the 1st 2 rounds by better striking and stuffing pretty much all of Storys TDs. he will gas towards the end of round 2, and in round 3 Story will take advantage but wont be able to finish him.
Marquardt wins 29-28.

it will never happen because it will never be sanctioned by any AC..
BTW i have Nate in the fight provided he make the cut right... if he makes a bad cut he will not have the gas to keep up with Story.
With proper cut IMO Nate second round stopage, if its a bad cut Story with a UD

Marquardt has trouble with wrestlers The weight cut will probably kill him because he's a big 185 = Rick Story by Decision.

I think John Fitch has a very different perception of himself than the fans. Honestly Jon Fitch can't sell a main event. He doesn't have a very exciting personality to sell fights, and his style is pretty boring to put it mildly.
I would have absolutely no issue with them just straight up cutting Fitch. As Dana has said, it's about more than just winning. He's very unlikely to ever beat GSP, and he has zero entertainment value. I'm sure he has some fans, but I think it's a very small fraction of the MMA community.
