The UFC officially announced today their August 14th event at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin: UFC on Versus 5, which be televised live on Versus, and headlined by a welterweight bout between Chris Lytle and Dan Hardy, with a co-main event pitting Jim Miller against Ben Henderson:

British welterweight star Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy made it no secret that he wanted his next fight to be against fellow knockout artist Chris "Lights Out" Lytle. On Sunday, Aug. 14, live from Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Hardy gets his wish, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship® announced today its first-ever card in Wisconsin.

Hardy and Lytle, two of the 170-pound division’s most devastating strikers, will collide in the main event, while lightweight contenders Jim Miller and Ben "Smooth" Henderson go to war in a bout that will determine which fighter moves one step closer to a shot at the title. Plus, light heavyweight star Stephan Bonnar returns to the Octagon® to battle the menacing Karlos Vemola and Amir Sadollah and Duane Ludwig engage in an exciting welterweight bout.

"Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle want to stand toe-to-toe until someone falls and that’s a recipe for an outstanding fight," UFC President Dana White said. "This is the fight both guys wanted, so the fans in Milwaukee are in for a treat. The Miller-Henderson fight should be equally exciting since both guys love to come forward and press the action. We can’t wait to host our first event in Wisconsin this summer."

Am I the only one who finds it strange that this is the main event over the Miller/Bendo fight? They're both coming off of losses (Hardy is coming off of 3), whereas Miller and Bendo are both coming off wins and are actually in the mix right now for a title shot.

The main event could backfire for the UFC. Lytle will be looking for a win and with such a glaring weakness in Hardy this might turn out be like the Johnson fight. I think the UFC should've taken the safe route and placed Miller/Henderson as the main event.

Beat me to it. I fully agree.

I didn't even think about that. I am ******* appalled. Give Jim Miller his due! Bendo too, that cat is a great guy, marketable, exciting.... These guys are awesome. Let Hardy and Lytle co-main, if that's the best you can do....

Edit: If I weren't over my prop limit, again.....

I guess I disagree. I think Hardy and Lytle are much more well known to the average fan making it more profitable to have them headline.

I agree that the Miller/Benson fight is much more relevant to getting into title contention, but UFC on Versus 5: Miller vs. Henderson isn't going to land as many viewers as UFC on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle.

I agree but I think it's a damn shame. The ufc has not marketed Miller the way they should. The guy is like the Jon Fitch of the LW division. And Miller is exciting so really there's no excuse in my mind.

Even if Lytle and Hardy are more marketable NOW, why not start building up Miller and Henderson. Like you said, both could actually challenge for a title in the near future, it just makes sense.

I was thinking that main-stream appeal was a possible reason for the choice of headliner, but I believe that you could still draw the same amount of viewers if you put Lytle-Hardy at co-main. Get them in the commercials, show some highlights, etc.

How are Bendo and Miller ever going to break out if the UFC doesn't push them? Miller has a great streak going right now, I believe 7 consecutive wins... Benson is a bad ass, and had a pretty good title run in the WEC, and looked really impressive to me against Bocek, who is no joke.

C'mon hype machine, work your damn magic! I believe Miller and Henderson could very easily gain main stream acceptance and large fan bases. Look at all of the talk of "disingenuous" fighters these days. I don't see either of them fitting that bill.

Edit: looks like I got beat to the punch on that argument a couple of times lol

It's totally up to Lytle how this fight goes. If he wants an easy win he'll take Dan down and submit him in side of the first 2 minutes. He absolutely without a doubt can do that if he wants to.

Otherwise, he'll try to be exciting and turn this into a brawl. Which he may or may not win.

Submit him? What like GSP did. Hardy has rubber limbs. If Lytle takes him down it will be a UD win not a sub.

I could see lytle subbing hardy. I hope he tries. he's certainly more well rounded.
