Kurt Pellegrino's days as a professional fighter may be over, he recently announced.
The veteran UFC lightweight, who had climbed into title contention with a recent four-fight win streak and 8-2 run, is taking a hiatus from active MMA competition.
Pellegrino said the disappointment of a recent two-fight losing skid, as well as outside interests, have prompted him not to seek a UFC contract renewal.
"At this time I am choosing to take some time off and step away from the sport as a fighter," he wrote today on kurtpellegrino.com. "Over my most recent fights, I have come to the realization that at this point I no longer can [or] want to make fighting my first priority."

Damn... Kurt is a great fighter. He tends to be pretty exciting as well. Hopefully this isn't the end for him,

I'm not a fan of his style of fighting at all, but I also think he can still make a living out of fighting if he wants to, he's a good fighter, just really really really boring.

Boring? You and I have very different takes on boring then.

Well this sucks. I've always liked Kurt and thought he was exciting and funny. I still remember him giving Nate Diaz a beating before being caught in a submission. Hope he decides to come back soon.

I just don't really think finishing guys who are like 0-3 in the UFC makes you an exciting fighter. Just about any UFC fighter should be able to finish guys like Alberto Crane who are flopping around on the ground from exhaustion within 5 minutes.
His fights against people who are of a similar caliber are generally quite boring to me. His fight against Neer is a pretty good example, he basically took Neer down and laid on him for 15 minutes. At one point Neer is actually shrugging and lifting his arms in frustration and Kurt still doesn't make any attempt to create space to finish or even inflict damage. The Stevenson, Tibau, and Sotiropolous fights were all also very boring.
I just think most of his "exciting" fights are exciting because of how bad his opponents were. If you look at everyone that he has finished their records are pretty much all something like 0-2, 1-3, 1-2 in the UFC.

I thought his fight with Stevenson was awesome, same with G Sot, Neer, Diaz amoung others. Different people, different opinions. Just because he fought guys with crappy ufc records doesn't mean the fight itself wasn't exciting. The only crappy fight I can think of is the Tibau fight and that's because generally Tibau isn't the most exciting guy.

The Diaz fight was definitely exciting. Like I said, I think he's a good fighter, maybe I'm just biased against him, who knows.

Have you seen him fight?
From wikipedia:
He defeated Thiago Tavares, in a preliminary bout at UFC 88: Breakthrough. Pellegrino bloodied Tavares' face in the first round and went on to win by a unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 29–28, 29–27, 29–27.[4] There was a small controversy in the fight, as it appeared that Tavares submitted to an armbar in the second round, but the referee did not stop the bout, causing boos from the audience. The fight was awarded "Fight of the Night" and was voted by UFC as the #2 best fight of 2008.
