In his first fight since his release from the organization, former UFC title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga (11-6) meets Bellator and EliteXC vet veteran Josh Barnes (6-5) in June.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the matchup with event sources.

Gonzaga and Barnes meet June 25 at MMA Explosions' "MMAX: Heavyweight Xplosion" event.

The event is expected to take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

I thought he didn't want to fight anywhere other than the ufc and was going to take a long break or retire?

I had also heard he didn't want to fight for peanuts in the minor leagues. Apparently the small time shows pay more than the BJJ contests?

Ya this is a bummer Gonzaga not fighting in the ufc ... i cant belive that considering what he did in his 12 fights there.. going 7-5 .. 5 KO's 2 SUB .. only losing to Couture - multiple time champion , Werdum - jijitsu phenom and one of only two men to beat the legend fedor emelianko , Shane carwin - former title contender with devastating one punch knockout power , Dos Santos - current title contender , and the last lost to Brendan Schaub a fast rising prospect with respactable wins .. i just cant seem to think why he shouldnt be fighting in the ufc
