What started as a freak occurrence has seemingly turned into a spiraling epidemic as the best of today’s UFC fighters are going down in a blaze of eight-sided glory. After the year we’ve had in this sport I must approach every pay-per-view with nervous anticipation. It really is true: Anything can happen.

I'd have to switch #2 and #1 around. I think SOME people out there gave Serra a chance because GSP is not even light years close to established as Cro Cop. Cro Cop has/HAD the MMA world wraped around his finger and nobody gave Gonzaga a chance in hell to win.

#1 and 2 are a tough call. Stake were higher for Serra b/c the belt was on the line

I disagree, I think that most people who understand the sport fairly well and were aware of gonzaga's background gave him a decent shot if he was able to take it to the ground and use his world class jiu-jitsu. The only reason this upset was AS huge as it was is because of the fact that Gonzaga dominated the standup and finished CroCop with a highkick.

Matt Serra has some pretty sick BJJ as well. I thought he could sub GSP like Matt Hughes did in their 1st fight. I think the fights should be 1a and 1b. Both were ground guys who knocked their striker first opponents out with... strikes. Cro-cop was a bigger name (IMO) and GSP had the belt. So it's a tie in my book.

yeah but I think GSP is a lot more skilled on the ground than CroCop, and most people (including me) thought that his ground skills were strong enough that matt wouldn't really have that much of an advantage on the ground either.

I agree about gonzaga. I had gonzaga winning that fight through relentless gnp, just did not expect that rediculous high leg kick.
