The enduring image from Saturday night's Strikeforce event was not of Nick Diaz or Gilbert Melendez rocking the house in San Diego with the stuff of a champion, or even of a bloodied, battered yet rejuvenated Keith Jardine. Even more memorable -- and surreal -- was the sight of UFC president Dana White sitting cageside in a Strikeforce T-shirt. This was the second-fiddle mixed martial arts promotion's first major event since being purchased by the top-dog UFC's parent company. And the historic evening made clear that it's now a whole new ballgame for the organization White not long ago was referring to as "Strikefarce."

Ummm, yeah. The article failed to mention that Sherdog's credentials were pulled as well. But they did in fact cover the event from the seats rather than press row.

This is just SI complaining about Gross and Hunt being banned for press row. Both of which have and still do work for SI from time to time. They knew who they were hiring and they knew they had pissed off the UFC one to many times.

Banning the press is always bs, whether you like what they write about you or not.

If there is one thing I have always thought Dana gets wrong, it's trying to control what the press says about the UFC by taking away credentials. It doesn't do him or the company a bit of good, and makes Dana look like a thin-skinned whiner with a nasty revenge streak.

He's not banning their coverage of the sport. There's nothing keeping them from continuing to cover the UFC/MMA.

Which is exactly why keeping them off of press row is a pointless and petty move.
Obviously, he can't ban them from covering the sport. Nobody could do that in a free country. But he is selectively denying members of the press access based on whether he likes what they write or not.
If he thinks the articles are wrong, he should come out and explain why, not try to discourage critics by punishing them. The last thing the sport needs is a bunch of Thomas Gerbasi clones running around who maintain their good graces by being nothing but mouthpieces for the UFC.

I don't disagree at all, but SI knew ahead of time the people they chose were basically lepers when it came to the UFC and that Dana can be childish. It wasn't like they were shocked by this fact. So the hole story is basically SI reporter bitching because the UFC bought SF.
