The UFC had allowed fans to get pretty worked up about a potential super-fight between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre after Silva beat Vitor Belfort at UFC 126. Since then the promotion has apparently backed off, with GSP being quite vocal about his hesitance to make the jump. Now word is coming from Silva's camp that Yushin Okami may finally be getting his shot at UFC: Rio: (via Tatame.com)

According to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, former UFC heavyweight champion and his training partner, Silva will fight Yushin Okami, the last opponent to defeat him (by DQ at Rumble on the Rock 8, in 2006), trying to set a new record of nine straight title defenses in the UFC. The return of the organization to Brazil will take place at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena, on August 27.

I like it. It should be a good fight. I don't know what the ufc will do if he wins though. I'm not a hater but this guy is not marketable in the slightest.

Okami gets his title shot finally but sadly Anderson Silva is still the middleweight champion.

I got Silva in this one, even though I dislike him.

Saw this coming a mile away. i may be conspiring to much but I honestly think The ufc said they weren't going to give Yushin a title shot just so when they do offer it to him he wouldn't even care he's fighting in Brazil in enemy territory.

I can't say I'm excited to see Yushin fight. But Anderson should know that he poses a real threat so hopefully he'll try to finish quickly.

I see this fight going one of two ways: spectacular finish by Silva, or completely boring decision by Silva.

Silva can finish any man on the feet, and 80% of them on the ground, Okami probably included. However, Okami is the kind of fighter where if you decided to stand in the octagon and just stare at him, he'd simply stare back. If Anderson plays the agressor, he should finish this fight, but it has all the makings of Silva/Leites as well.

Even though I don't see how Okami wins this fight, I'm glad they're giving him the title shot. long overdue and well deserved. I just hope the fight doesn't suck

EDIT:

Oh, Crap! Here's what Okami has said:

""I want to fight Anderson, beat him, and I believe I’ll become a new star in the UFC. I’m concentrating and training for that fight now. ... Anderson is the top of the middleweight division and I am coming for the belt. I promise you’ll see him fall and I’ll be the new champion."

Isn't this similar to what Maia said before he fought Silva that made silva taunt Maia for 3 rounds and then not fight for the last two? I guess this means Silva will dance around screaming "Hit me in the face, Playboy!" again...Maybe It's just me, but I'm nervous as hell that this fight will disappoint.

And Anderson Silva is my favorite fighter! However, I'm still haunted by the Silva/Maia fight. And people get on Okami for having a "boring" style...argh, whatever. I just want a good fight

Glad for this fight. With Rua unable to fight, giving Silva a fight is the right move...plus I think Okami deserves it...and its most likely the only fight left at MW that Anderson actually wants (I'm sure he wants that DQ loss off his record).

I think Anderson will actually bring it. Considering Okami is his last loss, and he was losing to Okami at the point of the DQ...this will tie his record together nicely.

After Okami, their really is nobody left to figt (except wanderlai if he can string together more wins...but in all honesty thats unlikely to happen)..so yea, after Okami then Anderson can fight GSP.
