SEATTLE – Fighting just seven days after fellow young gun Jon Jones (13-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) claimed the UFC's light-heavyweight belt, undefeated prospect Phil Davis (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) simply couldn't avoid the questions.
Try as he might to deflect the comparisons to "Bones," the wrestling phenom was forced to discuss his future even before he stepped into the cage to face Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the featured bout of Saturday's UFC Fight Night 24 event.
And while Davis essentially avoided the questions prior to his unanimous-decision win, he answered directly when quizzed post-fight. I'm my own man, Davis proclaimed, but if Jones and I are on a collision course, then bring it on.

I think we all saw they are not as close as we might have first thought.

I wouldn't be so quick to throw in Davis against Shogun.... I know Bader is coming off a loss, but Bader-Davis makes sense to me. They seem to be right around the same level, Bader's only defeat comes from current champ Jon Jones. I'd say Bader has an edge standing, but they are both highly touted wrestlers.
Also, after Davis' performance against Lil Nog, and Shogun's performance against Jones, I find Bader more impressive. I feel he beat Nog more handily, and did not get whooped nearly as bad as Shogun did against Jones. Albeit he went one round less, but it wasn't the kind of complete decimation that Shogun suffered. It was more of a mild destruction.
Hey now that I am thinking about it, how about Shogun vs Lil Nog as a rebound for both fighters? Maybe at UFC Rio? Kind of a long layoff, but that would be a goodie!

People shouldn't be so fast to jump off of the Davis band wagon, He beat a legend so what if it wasn't as impressive. Plus people are overlooking that Lil Nog faced 3 straight wrestlers, it's safe to say he has been drilling take down D as it showed last night. Davis is 5 and 0 in the ufc in a little over a year the sky is still the limit. Tough break for Nog though had that been Tito in there he would have dominated.

Davis is not nearly on the same level as Jones yet, he could be eventually but he still has a lot of learning to do. I like Davis a lot. He is very humble very respectful.. I see him taking out Jones eventually.

Last night was more about Lil Nog fighting a great fight than Davis looking bad. Davis made the proper adjustment and was very close to stopping Lil Nog in the 2nd round. I honestly think he's far and away the best at shooting for the takedown but I don't think he brings enough to beat Jones in 5 rounds.

I wasn't surprised to hear about injuries when the fight was done. I think People are going to be underestimating Davis a little bit after that fight. Granted I don't think he's anywhere near Jon Jones' level, and frankly I don't think anyone other than Anderson really has a shot at beating Jones, but I think Davis struggling had more to do with issues on his end than people overestimating him or Nogueira getting better at defending TDs.
Something looked wrong with him in this fight, his takedowns were really sluggish and telegraphed, he looked to be gassing pretty badly toward the end, a lot of things that we haven't seen in previous fights. The fight was closer than I expected it to be, but I don't think it's because Nogueira had worked on his defense, I think something was clearly wrong with Davis and when he mentioned that he had tons of injuries and problems during his training it made a lot of sense to me.
Again, Davis is no Jon Jones, but I wouldn't start underestimating him because of that performance. I think he's going to be up in the top 10 of the division pretty easily.

The way I see it, Davis needs 2 or 3 more fights before the title shot.
Next fight : Davis vs Hamill, then Davis vs Rampage, then Davis vs Top Contender (Shogun, Machida, maybe Griffin) then Davis should get the title shot.
If he got the title shot, it would be a Anderson Silva vs Demian Maia. Jon Jones being Anderson Silva, and Davis being Maia.

Davis is gonna only get better with each fight. He's not at Jones's level yet but he has alot of potential. He struggled a bit with lil Nog but Nog is no slouch. He did ok in his biggest test to date. we'll see how he does as he fights higher ranked guys.

Bader beat Nog much more convincingly, and look what happened when Bader stepped in with Jones. If Nog stuffed Davis's takedowns for most of the fight then theres no way he could take Jones down.
