Away from MMA competition for nearly three years, UFC heavyweight Heath Herring says he definitely wants to return to the cage -- but only under the right circumstances.

"It would have to make sense not only business-wise, but financially as well and I just don't know if that's in the cards at this moment," Herring told Ariel Helwani Monday on MMAFighting.com's The MMA Hour.

On the show, Herring said he has not been training MMA full-time and would need to devote the majority of his time towards training if he wants to be fight in today's competitive landscape.

The problem is Herring simply isn't good enough to warrant the kind of money he is looking for in mma. In today's mma landscape you either have to be a draw or perform at a high winning percentage to garner the upper echelon paydays. Herring, unfortunately does neither.

Three years away is a lot of time
If I were him I would just retire and stay in the movie business

I think he expected a bigger pay day coming from pride to the ufc and it didn't work out quite like he expected. Him dropping his bout against obrien in his debut didn't endear him to the ufc brass and they've been clashing ever since. If he does return I expect him receiving a tough fight back so they can send him off with a loss. Maybe the mir nelson loser.

i dont see this working out for herring. i could see him going like 0-2 and then getting cut. i think his world is not in the ufc but more like titan FC, shark fights, the smaller orgs.
