The Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix's second event will be delayed until early summer in order to capitalize properly on the success of its first event.

So says Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, who ended weeks of speculation about the fate of a second tournament quarterfinal event originally targeted for April 9.

Coker stated the April 9 event instead features two title fights: welterweight champ Nick Diaz (24-7 MMA, 5-0 SF) defends his title against Paul Daley (27-9-2 MMA, 2-0 SF), and lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez (18-2 MMA, 8-1 SF) defends his belt against Tatsuya Kawajiri (27-6-2 MMA, 0-0 SF).

Why would the belt be on the line? Daley would have to make weight.

Yeah, no surprise here. Coker said if Daley won his last fight then he would get a crack at Diaz.

I'm honestly starting to think that Daley doesn't care about winning belts. He just wants to fight and win. If that's true, props to him.

Got Daley vs Diaz
&
Melendez vs Kawajiri, both for the title. Solid card, takes my mind off the delay of the HW tourney.

Diaz wins again against another opponent with little to no ground game.

Cut Tyron Woodley like you did Joe Riggs so that Diaz never has to lose again.

Oh yeah, Diaz by submission. It will be similar to the Diaz vs Mach fight.

At this rate, i'm willing to bet we wont see the tournament final until next year.

If they wanted to capitalize on the the first events success why not get it out there and build hype for the semi finals?

Oh, and i got Diaz winning this by takedowns all night long. unanimous decision after 3 rounds.

Daley via KO mid rounds, If Koscheck had issues securing some of the takedowns on Daley, Diaz is going to really have to step up his takedowns, he might get 1 or 2, but Daley got up pretty quick a couple of times
Daley will keep his cool not let the lactic acid build up keep Diaz standing, tiring attempting clinches

Ill even avatar bet on it, Daley wins this fight.

Pookie this is the second post I can't help but agree with you, don't know why people think diaz had takedowns all of a sudden. He couldnt take down a naturally smaller noons at all so I don't see him taking down semtex who his training partner had a real hard time taking down. I can see Diaz win by out boxing him cause love diaz or hate him the guy can box his ass off, I was impressed with him beating Noons at his own game.i will be rooting big time for daley to knock out diaz just cause nicks chin is incredible. Can't wait going to be amazing.

Daley doesnt have enough power to stop Diaz, nobody does. TKO maybe but I doubt it. Ive seen Diaz hurt quite a few times but never knocked out. Diaz probably wins this by taking it into the later rounds where Daley gases and Diaz takes him down and submits him. End of story. I will av bet anyone that diaz wins this fight and I never av bet.

Also I have heard Aoki vs Josh Thompson, KJ Noons should be fighting, Takaya is gonna be fighting and they also said they are trying to bring in alot of Japanese guys for the prelims which might air on HDNet.

Diaz v Daley
Melendez V Kawajiri
Aoki v TBA (Josh Thompson)
Takaya v TBA
KJ Noons v TBA

If Diaz couldn't sub a Lightweight boxer named Noons
(who should cut his hair, his keanu reeves surfer hair, kept getting in his face, KJ wiped the hair out of his eyes more times than he threw that right hand he finished Jorge Gurgel with in my opinion)

- I doubt he can hold Daley down, never mind sub him

Diaz is a good volume puncher, but Daley showed when he knocked out Scott Smith what power and.skill will do. Diaz will be hard to knock out, but I think there is a tko in Diaz's future.

If Diaz sub's Daley, I wont be as impressed as if Diaz knocks Daley out standing
