UFC middleweight contender Michael Bisping landed an illegal knee to the face of opponent Jorge Rivera during their UFC 127 co-headliner bout. That blow possibly decided the outcome of the fight as Rivera was visibly diminished after getting a very brief pause to recover.

But it's Bisping's actions after the fight which included spitting at Rivera's cornerman that have him in hot water with UFC boss Dana White. Mike Chiappetta reports:

UFC middleweight contender Michael Bisping will face disciplinary action for his behavior following his UFC 127 win, UFC president Dana White told MMA Fighting.
...
White said he has yet to make a decision on whether Bisping will be fined and/or suspended for his actions, but confirmed that he will be subject to some punishment.

Feed him to Sonnen or Vitor, that's punishment.

I think suspensions are not as effective as they are in other sports because of the down time that comes with fighting. You suspend a guy for 6 months and he's only effectively being suspended for half of that time

Ok so the illegal knee isn't what caught Dana's eye, it's the fact that he spit at their corner? Haha really? I mean.....really?

That should be your head hitting that wall. Obviously you can't assume the knee was intentional. The way Bisping explained what happened afterward is definitely plausible and other fighters have said the same thing after accidental knees. When you are in the moment in the fight and expecting him to get up and he stops getting up when you were trying to time it, it happens.

The spitting was completely intentional and after the fight was over.

No it wouldn't, that would be an opportunity to take the next step towards a title shot. He needs to be heavily fined. Hit him in the pocket book and he'll think twice before pulling that **** again.

Why can't you assume the knee was intentional? It looked blatant to me. If he doesn't get a heavy fine for it guys are going to start doing it more. Think about it, who the hell cares if you get deducted a point if you scramble the guy's eggs and win the fight by TKO. I don't think he should get paid for that fight at all.

I don't see why we need to parse Bisping's actions. Who cares if the illegal knee was intentional or not, celebrating while a fighter is down because of your illegal blow and you don't know the extent of the damage that the illegal blow caused is reason enough to take action against the guy. Nevermind the spitting and talking sh*t during and after the fight.

I pose this question to all of those who say the knee wasn't "intentional;" if an NFL player had hit another player in the head with an illegal tackle and the celebrated as that player were downed because of that blow, what do you think his teammates, the other team, and Roger Goodell would have done/said?

The punishment will be more like a slap on the wrist
Won't be severe. 6 months suspension. Doesn't mean anything
Curious to see what would it be.
No main event status in england for next event??

Dana...hypocrite again....he has said several times that he isn't a disciplinarian when his fighters get caught on illegal substances, or when men are flipping each other off after fights and yelling at their corners, or when they show up wearing shirts with stupid crap on them......but spitting is where he draws the line? Just weird to me, I understand it but it's odd that one can go on and off so often like that. If I were president I'd have him punished for both, a NC for the knee and a 1 year suspension for the spitting.....then he'd have to climb back up the ladder from the bottom....same for all the guys who get caught on the piss test....even Thiago Silva who is one of my favorites would get that treatment. Dana needs to sit down with his company and sort all these kind of issues out and then post it up in the locker rooms for all to see.

I think a lot of fighters would be cut for less, but unfortunately he may be the UFC's biggest draw for english fans. I think the only real punishment he could be given that would actually hurt would be a fine. I think his win bonus should be donated to the disaster victims in New Zeland.
