That's what the former UFC champ tells the TATAME. "We know Randy Couture is a great champion, a guy who helped to build the sport as it is, and it's a great pleasure to have this fight on my résumé, because I'll be part of Randy Couture's history on the sport. He added much to MMA. I believe we can win, we have many weapons. Despite he's on a certain age, he's tough and experienced, and he's been fighting guys like Minotauro, and he did tough fights and he's tough for anyone. ... UFC considers the incomes a lot, the profits, and if I'm not pleasing the fans anymore, they won't feel sorry for me. That's why I've always invested on me a lot, and it won't be any different now. If I did a lot, I'll do a lot more now. I'll give my best trying to win."

I doubt if lyoto losses again he will be cut
They keep matt brown, tito, ryan jensen, but cut machida

I really think Machida will win, but I agree if he doesn't I don't think they will cut him.

It's good that he at least understands the business aspect though, and is prepared to be cut if he loses.

I missed this. I thought Randy was done fighting and focused on training others and doing movies. I hate/love fights like this. I don't want to see either guy lose. Machida should be able to win this which makes Randy the under dog as usual. I'd have to root for Randy but I'd hate to see them cut Machida

(unless he did go to Strikeforce....every time strikeforce adds another talented fighter to the roster i become more hopeful that they'll be able to survive and hopefully compete with the UFC.)

Machida needs to finish this fight. Would I agree if the UFC cut Machida if he losses to Couture? Not at all. Do I think that it's a possibility that they will? Yes.

When it comes to the UFC, anyone can be cut, at anytime. This could be due to losing streaks, performance, reputation, popularity, or anything of the sort. Machida isn't imune to getting cut, so he needs to win.

But, not just win, he needs to finish the fight. What scares me the most about Machida fighting Couture is how the judges will score the fight if it goes to a decision. We've all seen what happened with the Vera fight (a lot of people I've talked to think that Vera won the fight against Couture) and the MMA community knows that bad judging has become more and more common in the last few years. If Machida doesn't finish, or at least dominate Couture to a 30-27 decision, then who knows how the judges will see the fight.

They will absolutely not cut Lyoto when they keep way lesser fighters after 3-4 losses. Any rumor of this cut is just to get a fire under Lyoto's ass to finish Randy, which will probably will.

:
Isn't it funny how it seems like a fighter has to dominate a fight to get a 30-27 decision? I read an article about California trying out a new scoring system this year on amateur MMA fights, I wonder if that panned out/how it's going.

But more to the point of the thread, I do not believe Machida gets cut with a loss. Some people criticize his fighting style, but I point them to his fights with Silva and Evans, especially the Silva fight. He is a smart fighter, and if he sees the openings, he finishes. And he can do it in spectacular fashion.

His last two losses are no shame, both to highly ranked, world champion fighters. If he lost against Couture, the story would be the same with that loss. Couture is a 5 time UFC champ, is in the UFC Hall of Fame, and a legend in the game. I believe Machida has the skills to win this fight, but I don't think he's going anywhere if he doesn't.

I fully expect Machida to win this fight, but I'm gonna be cheering for Captain America, no doubt.

I think Lyoto would get cut if he loses, but it's tough to say, I just don't feel that he is the fighter he was before the first Shogun fight, and he's not a huge draw on his own.

No way Lyoto gets cut witha loss. I'll bet my avatar for a year. Also i think Lyoto will absolutly crush Randy early. Randy is a "in your face" fighter. That plays right into Machida's hand. A counter left destroys Randy in the 1st rnd!
