Two days after Fedor Emelianenko suffered his second consecutive loss and said in his post-fight interview that it might be time to walk away, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said he expects Fedor to return rather than retire.

And Coker already has an opponent for Fedor in mind: The loser of the April 9 bout between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum.

??? How do you lose 2 in a row then get a title shot?! Strikeforce really needs to sort this crap out!

The fight between Werdum and Overeem is not for the title. So if Overeem wins he won't be fighting for the title and if he loses then he will be fighting Overeem coming off a loss.

I like this idea a lot more than Fedor becoming an alternate for the tournament as reported yesterday.

IF Overeem loses to Werdum, he'll still have the title...and then Fedor fights him after having 2 losses in a row.

But Overeem would still be the title holder. I guess they could make it a 3 rd fight. Seems to me Coker learned nothing from the Shields v Hendo. Hes thinking Overeem is going to beat Werdum and its no big deal.

What I don't get is why people are calling for him to retire? Not that you did SmileR. Hes not the first guy to lose two in a row he simply went so long not losing. Has he no worth to the sport now? We still watch Matt Hughes fight and Randy Couture. I can see calling for AA to hang them up since he is being put to sleep but Fedor got subbed by a very good ground fighter and he got mounted by Big foot who is huge and has good wrestling and good Jits. If he wanted to call it quits I would have no problem but who are we to call for it?

Mybe Coker thinks like Rich Franklin and Randy Couter just make intresting fights even if they make no sense in the Grand scheme of things

Is that a good idea? Overeem is a monster and Werdum subbed him quick. I could see him beating Werdum again but he'd have to KO him and avoid the ground.

SF is just desperate to get Fedor vs Overeem is all......Fedor should have a serious drop in competition IMO....have him fight for the alternate is my thoughts, you can't go 2 losses in a row and expect too much more, even if you are Fedor.

Exactly! he should have a fight or two against some guys trying to break into the top 10/15. Fedor has to be a bit jacked up mentally right now. He just lost 2 fights in a row. He doesn't really know how to lose. I think he is still totally capable of beating the best but he probably needs to change up a few things and actually start coming into fights with an actual plan.
He won for so many year that he might not be able to adjust anything about the way he fights.

I'd hate to see him go but I think it's silly to have him fight Overeem next...that being said i'd be watching for sure and would love to see that fight. Coker knows that.
