Before Jon Jones ultimately got a UFC 128 title with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was offered the bout but turned it down.

A UFC official today confirmed the turn of events with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Rua first mentioned the possibility in an interview with Tatame.com.

The March 19 slot opened this past weekend when Rashad Evans's knee injury forced him out of the upcoming title fight, which takes place in Newark, N.J. as a pay-per-view headliner.

With Jackson turning down the title fight, he still officially is scheduled to fight Thiago Silva in the co-headliner of May's UFC 130 event. Soon after that fight's announcement, UFC president Dana White hinted that Jackson could be in line for a title shot with a victory.

The reason Jackson turned down the title fight wasn't immediately clear. The UFC official declined to comment, and the fighter's representatives couldn't be reached.

I hate it when journalists write stories centered around material they don't have.

After "Rampage" Jackson declined,

But we don't have the reason....here's an idea, why don't you wait UNTIL you GET the reason.

That's the interesting part of this story. The other part of it is just news we heard in the Octagon on Saturday.

Jackson vs Silva sounds a lot more violent and interesting than Shogun Vs Jackson.

I don't agree. Rampage and Shogun already fought in Pride, and it was scary. Shogun put a beating on him, but so did Wanderlei, and look what Rampage did to him in the UFC.

I don't see why Rampage would decline a title shot, especially if he's not injured. So, he has the opportunity, he's not injured, so it's probably something personal.

I remember Rampage saying that Shogun was his toughest fight in an interview before his third fight with Silva. It could be that Rampage just doesn't want the rematch.

I wanna see Rampage and Shogun fight again. In the cage it might be a different story. There are different strategies you can use that work really well. (The clinch)

I just watched it. lol it was scary. I just see Silva and Rampage doing a lot of trading were I picture Shogun vs rampage as being a bit more technical now.
