Seriously. Irvin returned to action over the weekend, battling Mike Crisman in the main event of Gladiator Challenge: "Young Guns 4" at the Elko Indian Colony Gym in Elko, Nevada. Irvin claims he beat the 9-19 Crisman fair, but apparently special guest referee Shamrock saw it differently according to Irvin's explanation. "I beat the brakes off this fool...he was sleeping on the ground. Ken Shamrock says I illegally kneed him, so it was a no-contest! I KO'd this guy and walked away before Shamrock even got there, and two minutes later, he says it's a no-contest. It's cool. I don't have a scratch on me, and I'm fighting again in three weeks. That was the luckiest night of that dude's life. [GC Promoter] Tedd Williams says I can rematch [Crisman] in May. Perfect rematch." Said May rematch does appear likely, Shamrock participation TBA.

special referee matches have no place in MMA, thats for wwe I mean does anyone remember the MMA fight Mike Tyson refereed where he stoop them up off the ground after 10 seconds and then didnt see the guy tap? Guys train 8-9 weeks for MMA bouts and their destiny shouldnt be up to a incompetent "special guest referee"

Just something else to add on the list of reasons why I don't like Shamrock.

My question is, how can someone who competed as a mixed martial artist for so long bungle being a referee? You would think he knows the ins and outs of the game! Sweet lord.....

I would think that Ken could qualify as a ref with all the years in the sport he has under his belt. They fail to inform us if the knee was legit or not but as bad as Even Dunham was getting smashed on by Melvin he was hit by an Illegal knee as well. It ran trough my mind that Melvin might get that fight takin away from him.

I was thinking the same thing. Dunham was never unconscious, and although he was getting stomped badly, so was Edgar when he fought Maynard, and he battled back to a draw.

You never know what would have happened if he didn't take that illegal knee. Yeah, he probably would have suffered a (T)KO anyhow, but you never know. He could've busted out a laying scissor heel hook and subbed him Chonan style!

I don't think that the refs should start calling every fight a no contest or DQ win when stuff like this happens, but I can't believe how this whole thing has gone essentially unnoticed.... And for Joe Rogan to glaze over it during the broadcast kind of pissed me off too.
