Dream co-producer Real Entertainment (ex-DSE staff) plans on forging ahead in the turbulent Japanese mixed martial arts promotion business with an eight-fighter lightweight tournament starting in May, sources tell ESPN.com.

The field would consist of Strikeforce and Real Entertainment fighters.

"We're committed to keeping our fighters active, but if we can help Dream and have our fighters go over there and participate in their tournament, why not?" said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker.

I wish the ufc would do grand prix, I find them so exciting. As for this one, it seems a little soon. Though their last one was really exciting and Hellboy Hansen ended up coming out champ so it could be interesting

Hopefully they can get Alvarez over there again.

I love it! Keep the secondary league alive, make your picks!! Dream is awesome, I am stoked on the tourneys this year! How dope would it be if the UFC had a tourney in Japan this year??!

Strikeforce is definitely making a good push with their Heavyweight Tourney...if they dont mess it up...I just feel like they drop the ball far too much when it comes to planning.

LWGP is sounds like a good idea...just be interesting to see who fills the brackets...if Gilbert, Aoki, Kawajiri, and Alvarez are all in it then its just as legit as the HWGP is.

If Dream and Strikeforce can still manage to put together these kinds of tourneys then they have a shot to survive. However if Dream can't succeed financially then that wont bode well for Strikeforce, as I would see alot of those fighters finally making their way to the UFC.

I think Tournaments are the only way these organizations can survive outsided the UFC. Its the only way they can build interest in the fighters. You have to give the UFC credit for puting so much into promoting the fighters and letting people know more about them then just their record.

You'll never see this because you only leave useless bits of info and then run out of the threads forever, but it's a lightweight, not light heavyweight tourney.

List of the 8 fighters used

Melendez
Thomson
Kawajiri
Noons
Aoki
JZ
Beerbohm
(no clue for the 8th guy)

Purely speculation at this point but those 7 for sure in my eyes.

Forgot about JZ...def a good addition...I think Hellboy has lost a few too many fights recently...I know on name alone he could be thrown into this tourney without anyone blinking an eye though.

They might as well have a tourney for every division, I would rather it be different nights always.I dont think the champ should be in a tourney just fight the winner of the tourney when its over.
from Japan

Aoki ,that kickboxer that upset Aoki and Kawajiri plus
Noons
Josh Thompson
Gurgel
JZ
Billy Evangelista

a lhw tourney would also rule,

Kyle, Gegard, king Mo, hendo, babaulu roger gracie OSP( Randleman? Prangley? or 2 new guys get signed

185 still having a tourney? idk

On the Strikeforce show last night they were taking a text poll on what tourney they should do next...MW won out.

I like the idea of a LHW tourney...I'm a fan of tourney's in general...I understand why the UFC doesn't do them (well they sort of do with TUF)...but the tourney's in the other orgs, for me anyways, make it more interesting to tune in.

I can't wait for Bellator in March. Will be nice to see each event live for once.
