As expected Spike TV will broadcast a dozen "UFC Prelims" broadcasts, which are one-hour preliminary-card specials that precede pay-per-view airings, this year. Spike announced the plans today, first up is UFC 126. The featured TV fights will be Donald Cerrone vs. Paul Kelly and Chad Mendes vs. Michihiro Omigawa. But the reported contract renewal to keep the specials going still hasn't been finalized, that would be needed for the specials to continue past 2011.

The UFC first offered a PPV teaser broadcast for UFC 103 in 2009, when the UFC went head-to-head with a boxing PPV broadcast featuring Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez. The specials proved effective enough at generating last-minute PPV buys that officials from the UFC and the organization's longtime cable partner decided to make them a regular offering.

I like this paragraph because it reminds me that they do it because it works. I get just as excited as the next guy when I hear there's free fights on TV, but I like to be reminded that there's always the "it's-a-business" angle.

Wouldn't mind seeing Paul Taylor vs. Gabe Ruediger. Ruediger isn't all that great, but I always love watching Taylor fight. Won't surprise me if he recieves another Fight Night award.

This. Even though the Kid fight will either be quick and brutal (my hope) or Demetrious picks Kid apart with his speed for a decision.

I really would rather see kid vs mighty mouse
Than kelly vs cerrone

But anyways it would be nice if the ufc allowed the fans to vote in
One spike prelim of the two
Say a month out. We have a two week window to vote in one of the prelims

ha ha yeah!

And have Dana get upset with the fans picking, just like fight of the night with GSP and Josh K.
