Despite Fedor Emelianenko’s loss to Fabricio Werdum in June, Antonio Silva (Pictured) still views the Russian fighter as MMA’s top heavyweight. However, that does not mean Silva will not try to take a page from his countryman’s playbook when the Brazilian “Bigfoot” meets the “Last Emperor” in the opening round of Strikeforce’s heavyweight grand prix.
“The one thing I have in my mind is: Werdum showed the world [Fedor’s] holes on the ground. I think his main weakness is there,” Silva said during Thursday’s media conference call to promote Strikeforce “Fedor vs. Silva” on Feb. 12 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.
“It’s very hard to define how the fight’s gonna be. I’m gonna follow the waves, and if the fight’s good for me in the stand-up, I’m gonna keep it standing up,” Silva added. “He’s a complete fighter. I’m a complete fighter. I’m going to capitalize on anything the fight gives to me.”

interesting. I think he may have the best chance pushing Fedor into the cage, and dirty boxing.

This is just steam. Fedor gets caught by one of the top BJJ practitioners in the heavyweight division, after 10 years of never getting caught. So now it's his main weakness .

I dunno if Big Foot actually means it or is just saying it to try and mess with Fedor mentally. but anyway Fedor has a great ground game and just got caught by Werdum while being over aggresive.

I think its a valid point. Fedor doesn't practice bjj and sambo is a lot sloppier form of grappling. Doesn't mean its bad though, he's just not a slick technical whiz when it comes to submissions. Against nog he used speed and athleticism. He might have lost some of that now that he's older.

I rolled my eyes at this as well. I will say one thing though. If you look at his losses, it is technically his main weakness...unless you count skin durability.

Whatever helps Silva sleep at night. Fedor is still Fedor. This topic is so far from my attention when it comes to this tournament, as my mind is still trying to process Overeem VS Fedor.

I am so pumped for this card! I bought my tickets the day they went on sale! I told my wife I wanted to go and she was like lets do it! So we are going to spend the weekend checking out NYC (I have never been) and watching Fedor fight! I hope the make they Werdum Overeem in Columbus so I can go to that as well.

Silva is just pointing out one of many obvious things about Fedor, he's also fat, undersized, and sloppy with his stand-up. Cages do tend to favor stronger fighters and I think that will be Silva's best chance of winning,
