Welcome to the upper echelon of the division, Phil Davis.
Sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that fast-rising light heavyweight Phil Davis (8-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is expected to face fellow contender Matt Hamill (10-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) at UFC 129 in Toronto.
Sources said verbal agreements are in place for the fight and that bout agreements soon should be signed.
UFC 129 takes place April 30 at Toronto's Rogers Centre, and the pay-per-view main card features welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre vs. top contender Jake Shields.
Davis vs. Hamill is expected to be part of the televised lineup.

Big step up in competition for Davis. I think he can handle it. Not sure who I'm going to pick to win though.

I am a fan of both guys. But feel Hamill is getting the short end of the stick on this match considering Dana said he would be fighting a Top 10 guy next. Davis is a good talent for sure but I feel Hamill deserved someone who is ranked higher.

I love Matt Hamill, I think he has all the talent in the world. His story is inspiring, and we all love it when someone overcomes adversity. But he is kind of like a Brock Lesnar, we've known about the holes in his game for quite a while, but he still hasn't fixed them.
The first strike (that i recall) Tito Ortiz throwing in his fight against The Hammer was a head kick, which rocked Hamill. He ducks all the time, just asking to be kicked in the face. Surprisingly he survived and won that fight.
If he put his stand up game together he would be much more fearsome. He is a fantastic wrestler, and scary strong. His head kick KO against Munoz (which I enjoyed) seems kind of like an anomaly. He also seems virtually incapable of throwing straight punches.
Davis UD.

I think speed is the big difference here and Davis has a much better take down and stand up. Hammil is tough, but just too slow and gasses too easy.
