Two-time UFC veteran Jamie Varner will have to wait to make his triumphant return to the octagon.
Following a recent four-fight winless streak, the former WEC champion was released by Zuffa officials.
News of the roster move was first reported by PunchDrunkGamer.com, and MMAjunkie.com subsequently confirmed Varner's release with his management.

If you look at the outcome his last 4 fights it's really not a shock.

I figured they would use his name and hype him up since the WEC merged with the UFC. He's one of the more recongnized fighters to mainstream fans coming from the WEC. I mean look at Tito Ortiz, they are selling on his name alone, he hasn't won a fight since Shamrock.

Tito is a much bigger name than Varner although I still can't believe he hasn't been cut by now.. I don't think your casual fan has any idea who Jamie Varner is. The UFC has so many fighters after the merger that it doesn't matter who you are or what you've done in the past (minus Tito I guess).

It's not a suprise that the ufc wouldn't want the likes of varner and the baggage that comes with. He is a constant stream of controversy and whining. The ufc wants fighters not contestants that get pissy with the ref over points. Varner could be a top level fighter but he doesn't show the fighter spirit that the ufc is looking for.

I gave my honest opinion on Varner once before on this site...and had my post deleted and was accused of "fighter bashing". Therefore I will simply say:
I am not surprized by his release

This is no surprise. He went 4 straight fights without a win. Zuffa don't play that game.

I would also like Cerrone vs Varner 3, and hope Cerrone isnt cut also.
Losing at the top is not as bad as loosing at the bottom of the division.-imo
They should give all these name fighters at WEC a chance to bulk the ppv's up.. with star power, and do the most with the resources they have, instaed of handing out pink slips
Guida vs Shalarus
Joe daddy vs Jamie Varner
Bart vs Kenflo or Joe Lauzon
Cerrone vs Cole Miller
