Aleksander Emelianenko, the younger brother of Fedor, lost in an upset this past Saturday in Russia, ending an eight-fight unbeaten streak lasting over three years.

Competing under modified rules of stand ups after 30 seconds on the ground, Aleksander lost in the main event of "Draka 5" to K-1 veteran Peter Graham by way of leg kicks at two minutes and 50 seconds of the second round.

Aleksander doesn't spend a ton of time on the mat though. It's not really shameful to lose by tko to Graham, but from what I've seen of Emelianenko in the past few years hasn't looked too great. I will say though, he's probably fighting on the right level of competition.

What i think is shameful though in this situation is that the fight was against a K-1 veteran...and come on, peter graham...i like the guy but not much of a ground game there. so why that 30sec stand up rule. wuuuuuuuut gives

You got me on that one. It is a bogus rule.

I don't see this as much of a setback for Aleksander, he fought under bizarre rules against the same Peter Graham that broke Badr Haris jaw in 3 places.

Yeah this seems like it was a paved road for Graham.

Aleksander probably took too much comfort in his own stand up ability and let his pride get in the way of his reasoning. That's the only reason why I could see him taking a match like this.
