Alistair Overeem already owns the Strikeforce MMA heavyweight title. Now he owns the most prestigious championship in heavyweight kickboxing.
Overeem won the K-1 World Grand Prix Final 2010 with a brutal display of striking Saturday in Japan, using a vicious body shot to stop Peter Aerts in the final of his three fights in the eight-man, one-night tournament.

This years tourney was fantastic, just like the GP's usually are, I am glad Alistair was able to pull of the win, bu I would have loved to see what would have happened if Gokhan Saki wasn't injured in/before their semi-final fight.
Can't wait for next years GP

Alistair Overeem looked even bigger in this fight. He demolished Aerts.

I bet he was glad he got Aerts in the final. The man is finished as a fighter.

Aerts has Semmy's number, I think Semmy would have probably beaten Overeem, if he hadn't lost to Aerts again.

Good for him, but this was a fairly weak tournament.

Good for him, but this was a fairly weak tournament.
Given that Remmy retired, the only way the tourney could have been stronger is if Badr Hari had been involved.
But there have been several weaker tourneys lately. Namely, any tourney that didn't have Schiltt. Until this morning, Schiltt had never lost a K-1 tourney he had entered into.
Alistair ended up having a fairly easy path, but before the event everyone thought he was in the tough bracket. A win over Sprong is always a big deal. Saki is up there with Hari as the greatest technical fighter out there, but his fight with Ghita left him with a broken hand and damaged arm. I can't wait to see a rematch between Reem and Saki some day. Finally it isn't Reem's fault that Aerts beat Schiltt. I think everyone wanted to see Overeem/Schiltt, but at the end of the day Overeem beat a tourney field that included Schillt, Saki, Sprong, Aerts, and Ghita and is the champ of K-1 for 2010.
If you had asked me four years ago about Overeem's chances in a K-1 GP, I would have said 0%
EDIT: It is especially impressive when you consider that K-1 changed the rules this year in way that specifically hindered Overeem, as well as Muay Thai fighters.

WAR THE UBEREEM!!!
This will increase Alistair Overeem's value immensely, and if Dana White ever plans to sign him, those negotiations will break down quickly because of his asking price and his no-compete clause.

man i loved seeing an MMA fighter win the K-1 GP. but at the same time, he did have a fairly easy road to winning by beating Saki (who just went through a 4 round war) with one kick and then beating a heavily tired Aerts (who just fought 6 rounds and got tagged a few too many times by Semmy...and also had his eye swollen). but that is how these tournaments go. i feel Ubereem should have been docked a point or two for consistently using the MT clinch after being warned twice. you could see the ref wanting to step in and issue the penalty over and over again.
needless to say, congrats Overeem. you have silenced a bunch of UFC nuthuggers who think JDS will easily KO you
