A bout between welterweight contenders Diego Sanchez (22-4 MMA, 11-4 UFC) and Martin Kampmann (17-4 MMA, 8-3 UFC) is set for UFC on Versus 3 and likely will headline the show.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the booking with sources close to the fighter.
The Versus-televised event takes place Thursday, March 3, though a location and venue haven't been finalized.
It'll be the first UFC on Versus show of 2011. As part of the UFC-WEC merger, Zuffa LLC signed a deal with Versus to air four UFC shows on the all-sports cable station in 2011. Two aired this year as part of an inaugural deal between the two.

Really? I'm actually leaning towards Diego in this one. We know Kampmann can be taken down, and Diego will come in better shape than Shields did.

Yeah, I'm thinking Diego might just want to grapple but let's hope they trade

Well, Diego has horrid defense on the feet and although he has a strong grappling game, his takedowns aren't great. I think his holes as a fighter are easily exploitable for Kampmann's strengths.

Nice matchup. Should be fun to watch, and I think either guy earns a lot from a win here.

Whaaaaaat? I like these guys, but not when their fighting each other. I just think there are some other more exciting match-ups for both them. Maybe I'm just disappointed that this the main event.
Oh well, at least it's always entertaining to watch both of them fight. Maybe I will be more excited the closer the event comes. I think Sanchez will take the decision.

I have Kampmann winning this. He definitely beat Shields in his last fight and got robbed of the decision. There is no way Diego stops him on his way back into the win column.

Jake won vs Martin. Unless the guy on top always loses, and the guy who cant get anything done from the bottom wins. Martin had a good knee, but didnt have any submissions near a finish.
Diego will get out pointed again like he did against Hathaway imo.

Kampmann should demolish Diego w/o getting the finish. Diego's wrestling won't be good enough to keep Kampmann down. When they're standing, Kampmann will pick Diego apart. Should be very similar to, but slightly more competitive than, the BJ Penn fight IMO.
