Fresh off his 10th consecutive victory by guillotine choke, Cody McKenzie (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) now meets Yves Edwards (38-16-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) at "UFC Fight Night 23: Fight for the Troops 2."
Multiple sources close to the event today alerted MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) of the fight and said verbal agreements are in place for the lightweight bout.
UFC Fight Night 23 takes place Jan. 22 at Fort Hood in Killeen, Tex., and airs live on Spike TV.
Edwards, a longtime member of American Top Team, previously was scheduled to meet Melvin Guillard at the event. But when Kenny Florian was forced to withdraw from a headlining bout with Evan Dunham, Guillard took Florian's place, and that opened up an opportunity for McKenzie on the night's featured preliminary-card fight.

I'm a fan of Cody, and if he can improve his stand up, he could make an impact
I like how both Cody stepped in willing to face a striker, and how he was willing to fill in. I really hope he can make it 11 to fear that choke.

People keep doubting Mckenzie and his guillotine choke. I see a lot of people repeating the same opinion "As long as they can keep away from his guillotine than they can win" but what those people don't realize is that sometimes it seems impossible for some fighters to stay out of. I'm sure after his 4th straight guillotine his opponents started "watching out" for the choke but guess what? It didn't help. There have been 11 victums of this choke, and I'd say after the 4th the other 7 knew it was coming and couldn't stop it.

I think this ends badly for McKenzie. In a way, I hope I'm wrong, because that would be really exciting. Another win-win fight.

Seriously. Yves might not be what he used to be, but he's still incredibly well rounded. I would guarantee an Yves victory, but somehow McKenzie always finds that guillotine.

If his guillotine was that difficult to avoid then surely he would have won TUF?

Cody McKenzie vs. Aaron Wilkinson was an almost laughable attempt at an MMA fight. You have a guy in McKenzie who has what seems to be no real talent except for the sloppiest of take down attempts and a choke hold. A choke which he applies to even worse versions of MMA fighters. Yves Edwards will destroy....McKenzie. Please someone send me an avatar bet..

I don't know how Mckenzie pulls a guillotine on Yves Edwards before he gets knocked out but Edwards never has any consistency from fight to fight.

1. These guys should both be fighting at 145lb.
2. This is a mismatch.

That last guilotine, "choke" should realy have a different name, I'm going to call it the jawbreaker. I think if Cody can up his cardio he takes it, I think he F**cked up Nam in the first round and would have won if he didn't gas.
