Michael Bisping, in his latest video blog, confirmed early reports from MMAWeekly.com and others that he will indeed fight Jorge Rivera at UFC 127 in Sydney, Australia.
Bisping believes is will be the co-main event of the Feb. 27 fight card. He also indicated that it isn’t quite the fight he wanted, having asked for a more high profile opponent.

Risky fight for Bisping and nothing much to gain but everything to lose.

Is it fighter bashing for me to sincerely hope that a specific fighter gets bashed...in the face....hard...by Jorge Rivera?
Because I hope Bisping get's bashed hard in the face by Rivera.

I don't really get the reasoning behind this bout. Bisping is taking a long step back from contenders like Akiyama, and Dan Miller to face a fading gatekeeper that strung together a couple wins...as the co-main event!?
I would have loved to see Bisping against a contender like Alan Belcher (assuming he's recovered from injury). I just don't see what a win over Rivera does for Bisping's career. This is easilly a bout that will come in at least -250 from the bookmakers for Bisping, and that just says something about the poor matchmaking.

I think this is an attempt to build Rivera into a contender, I don't think that Bisping will ever be more than a gatekeeper but as a gatekeeper he is one of the best and I doubt that Rivera is going to be able to reach contender status against such a well rounded fighter as Bisping.

Wait, does everybody think Rivera is going to win? Or do they just want Rivera to win?
Bisping is much more well rounded, and really comes in with pretty good gameplans against fighters, blending striking with takedowns. He also has better cardio than Rivera.
Rivera doesnt have the most well rounded game, and I think thoroughly outstriking Nate Quarry should not be that indicative of what he is able to accomplish against Bisping. Honestly, Bisping should just take Rivera down and beat him up.
I have Bisping in a one-sided affair.
