We now know that not all current WEC fighters are going to UFC as part of the upcoming merger-Alex Karalexis is not UFC-bound. In fact, he actually has been released by Zuffa. Karalexis last fought in April, losing by submission to ANthony Pettis. He was to have faced Zhang Tie Quan at WEC 51 but withdrew due to injury. He was 4-3 in WEC but just 1-3 in his last 4 fights.

Yeah not winning and being injury prone will get you cut nowadays.

My thoughts exactly. Dude brought it nonstop every fight. He'd make a good addition to Strikeforce though.

I always enjoy watching his fights. He'll definitely make a great pickup for Strikeforce or Bellator.

Karalexis is a close friend of Dana White's and probably wouldn't have been in the WEC as long as he was if he wasn't one.
Somewhat surprising, but I doubt Alex would have lasted long in the UFC anyway.

He does have history in UFC too, he was on season 1 of TUF and won his Finale fight, but then lost 2 in a row (the first of which was to KenFlo). So he's just 5-5 under the UFC/Zuffa banner lifetime. Should he go out and string 2-3 good wins together, he'll almost certainly be back.

I'd bet that since he is short even for a LW they offered him a spot only if he dropped in weight and he denied it. Too bad IMO....he's fun to watch.
