link Prior to his last bout against Thiago Alves, Jon Fitch had been told by UFC President Dana White that the winner would be the next in line to fight for the UFC Welterweight Title after Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck settle things in December but enter a Jake Shields signing and win at UFC 121 and it appears Fitch had been left out in the cold, but that's not something that he's upset about:

Fitch is such a class act. Despite obviously being disappointed in being passed over for the shot, he seems to understand the business enough to appreciate why it happened. Fitch has always been one of my favorite fighters, and he has always understood that his style is very polarizing, and as long as he is okay with that, I guess none of us fans can say anything about him getting his just deserves.

I'm sure he's not worried over it. After watching Jake Shields in his debut he probably isn't worried about Shields winning against GSP, and knows that gives him more time to train.

I don't think he is in the position to cry about a thing especially when considering he won't fight guys that are part of his camp.

He'll fight (and beat) everybody else. There are dozens of welterweights for Fitch to fight that aren't Koscheck or Swick, and he's amassed a 13-GSP UFC record doing so.

Jon Fitch

We're professional athletes. We're the ones that make that decision to put ourselves at risk and in the position of bodily harm. We should have the right to choose who we get to do that harm to. Motivation is a huge thing in fighting. If you're not motivated to fight somebody, it's going to be a bad fight. ... I have no idea. I really don't know what they're thinking.

On this topic, when has there ever been a time when the only sensible fight for Jon Fitch was Josh Koscheck?

Right now...John is riding another huge (5 fight) winning streak that lately saw him win a decision over Alves (who is coming off of a loss). Kos is coming off of a 3 fight win streak but finished the first 2 in dynamic fashion.....and no offense to Fitch but he isn't exactly known for being a finisher and that makes a difference. This fight (had they not already signed Kos v GSP) would make perfect sense right now to determine a true #1 contender.

However, never would I think that they should have to, or be coerced into fighting each other if they don't want to. I am just saying that since they don't/won't then they should expect these kinds of delays.
