Or in his words, MMAth + Hermes Franca +/- Strikeforce = Huh? "They made it sound so great that a company went under. The simple fact of the matter was that the WEC failed and they put it with the UFC to carry it. To compare WEC lightweights to Strikeforce and the UFC is not fair because if they were that good, they would have been fighting for the UFC. I think the world of (Jamie) Varner, but I beat Hermes (Franca) and Hermes beat Varner. Varner was the WEC champ for awhile. So, where does that leave us?"

This game is easy...let's see: Josh lost to Guida, who is a gatekeeper for the UFC. So, where does that leave us?

to an extent he's right...with the exception of a few successful WEC crossover, and a few yet to come (Aldo imo), many WEC'ers get a reality check when fighting in the UFC...ie Carlos Condit....not as dominant and killer as he was in the WEC

I think the top WEC contenders will be able to hold their own for hte most part in the UFC, but everyone below that doesnt stand a chance...and even being at the top of the WEC doesnt guarantee success in the UFC

Brian Stann was WEC dominant...

I don't really disagree with Thompson. I think the merger will be a great boon to the WEC's Featherweights and Bantamweights, but I suspect that only a few of their Lightweights will still be with the UFC a year from now.

mmath, Hermes, whatever,
Henderson is the champ. Hermes did win, but that was than this is now. Henderson keeps winning and fighting a lot.

Josh may be hoping to start a feud
with Ben, to earn him a wec-ufc fight.

Josh is wrong. Varner lost to Franca four yeras ago. A fight he was winning up until the third round armbar. At the time Franca was the number one contender and a few months later challenged Sherk.

People do get better you know.

Furthermore, Zuffa was stuck with the conundrum they made for themselves consisting of two lightweight dividions. When scouting talent to put in each one, sometimes it just seemed like a coin flip. Heads Nick Lentz goes to teh UFC and Tails he goes to the WEC. But seriously, guys like Henderson...how were they suppopse to know they were UFC calibur anyhow? At the time he was 7-1 against mostly no names. So he goes to the WEC, and shows that it doesn't matter what qualitry of competition he fights, he's just as good. Henderson was very well UFC calibur...but WEC is just where he ended up. Same with Roller, Cerrone, ect.

To say that a guy (especially henderson) isn't UFC calibur because they fight in the WEC is wrong. An oppertunity arose for Henderson to fight in the WEC so he took it. In fact, he was fighting on the local circuit and his match was cancelled the night before he was suppose to fight, a couple days later he got the call to the WEC as a late replacement...it very well may have been a late replacement call to the UFC. It just wasn't. Its where he ended up and he ran with it.

So these guys should be fighting where? What promotion has lower quality fighters than the UFC that these "non-UFC caliber" guys can go to?

Yeah, I'm sure Strikeforce will make an offer to whomever Zuffa doesn't re-sign. Bart Palaszewski, Mac Danzig, Kamal Shalorus, Chris Horodecki, and Thiago Tavares would all be good pickups for anybody, imo.

I'll take the WEC/UFC's LW's over Strikeforce's LW's anyday of the week.

I like Josh, I honestly do. Check my Top 10 Favorites, he's on there. But I hate when he opens his mouth and **** like this comes out. I want to eventually return to the UFC, but saying comments like this will only burn more bridges than build.

...I feel Henderson would beat both Thompson and Melendez, I think all 3 are amazing but I give the nod to Henderson
