Ah, but not THAT James Toney. With a wry smile on his face, UFC president Dana White called out the name of James Toney and welcomed him to the mat for his chance at a spot on "The Ultimate Fighter 13." That turned out to be a mere Freudian slip, as he was really calling out Jamie Toney, one of nearly 300 who tried out today for season 13 of TUF. Among the notable names at the tryouts: DREAM & Strikeforce veterans Andre Galvao & Karl Amoussou, TUF 9 contestant Frank Lester, TUF 7 contestant Jeremiah Riggs and Nick Newell, a one-armed fighter who wowed on the mat with a dizzying array of submission attempts before tapping his grappling partner with a deftly executed omo plata. Official cast announcements will not be made until just prior to the spring 2011 debut of the season.

Andre Galvao would be an interesting one, he would out-class almost anyone's bjj specialist who might coach on the show.

just checked out Nick Newell's fights on youtube. He seems to have the skills i'm curious to see how far he'd make it on the show. Hope he gets the chance!

I'd also like to see if Frankie Lester has been working on his conditioning.

I'd really like to see Charlie Rader make it. His last few outings have been very impressive.

There's no way that you can realistically fight at the highest level with one arm, and it may sound callous but I'd rather not see him take up a spot that someone with a chance to make a legitimate career in the UFC could have simply because he'll make for an interesting story. Let's be completely honest, if he makes it on the show it's almost certainly going to be because he has 1 arm and TV execs will be able to use him to get a ratings boost.

Does anyone actually think that it will be possible for him to compete at the level necessary for UFC fighters? Maybe I sound like an asshole here but I think I'm just being realistic. If he's actually one of the best fighters who tried out then great, but I seriously doubt that is the case.

Junkie updated the stories overnight, namely on Galvao & Amoussou-both have been released by Strikeforce.

Amoussou and Galvao? What in the holy hell????

If UFC passes up either of these dudes they are retarded. Amoussou has extreme potential still and might be at the top of the division in a few years, Galvao needs no explanation.

I will watch the show religiously if they pick up Amoussou.

Galvao didn't look good at all in his fight with Woodley. Amoussou is definitely tough.

I think the odds are heavily against him, but if he wins and impresses the way everyone needs to, then he obviously deserves the shot
