Former title challenger, "The Ultimate Fighter 4" runner-up and veteran middleweight Patrick Cote is a free agent.
Following a loss to Tom Lawlor this past weekend at UFC 121, the Canadian today confirmed via Twitter his UFC release.
"I had a little hope but (I) finally got the release word from the UFC," wrote Cote, who suffered a unanimous-decision loss at the Oct. 23 event in California. "It's been [an] awesome experience. I'll be back."

That's one guy on the list of cuts I thought would be made. I wouldnt mind seeing Cote go to SF because they have a pretty good MW division there.

I sort of feel bad for him because he went from being in a title fight to getting cut. I mean, he lost his title fight, but due to a blown ACL. Oh well, them's the bee's

He also got that title shot at a time where the middleweight division was in a lull. I've never been impressed with the guy to be honest.

Eh, that happens in all divisions. I'm not saying the guy was a pound for pound great, I'm just saying it sucks to come back from ACL surgery and find yourself out of work two fights removed from a title shot.

I haven't been impressed with him since his title shot, but I think they should have given him a last chance against a newcomer. Oh well, Strikeforce, Sharkfights, and Bellator would all love to have him.

As Cote is my favorite fighter...this stinks. He hasn't looked the same since he came back from his surgery. Every cloud has a silver lining though. Cote can refocus, hopefully work on some holes in his game and get some lower level wins under his belt. If he pulls off a couple wins the UFC will more than likely re sign him. Cote has had a pile of bad luck in the UFC, maybe some time away will change that. He really needs to work on his ground game. It has been his weakness since day one. He should seek out some new trainers. Maybe he should head out to Cali and hook up with the Cesar Gracie crew. Overall they seem to have the best ground fighting game going. I wish him luck wherever he goes and whatever he does.

Makes sense IMO....he's out of shape, and not very well rounded....he just needs a couple of wins (one against a solid ground cometitor) and he will be back. Cote is a prime example of a fighter who needs a new training camp IMO.

\ That's what I was thinking too, and they have some sluggers who'd be happy to have a boxing match with him - Scott Smith, Robbie Lawler, Cung Le.

Pat rushed is return to the UFC, doctors did recommend him taking an extra 6 to 8 months off due to his previous knee injury. Obviously he didint take that recommendation seriously and this most definitely played a big part in his training trying to get back into the octagon. I think this is only a temporary release though, as soon as he's 100% he'll get back on that mat and fix what he needs to work on, expect him to be back late 2011 or middle 2012 at the latest.
