In almost every television broadcast of almost every sport, one of the commentators is an athlete who has competed in the sport being shown. You never watch an NFL game without hearing analysis from a former football player, or a Major League Baseball game without hearing the voice of a former baseball player.

But in the UFC, the commentary role goes to Joe Rogan, who's undeniably knowledgeable about MMA but whose background is in comedy and acting, not in fighting.

Matt Hughes says it's time for the UFC to add a fighter to the broadcast.

Agreed, SOMEONE on that broadcast team should be replaced with a fighter.

Normally disagree with Hughes, but I can't help but think he's right. I enjoy Joe Rogan for the most part, but I'd love to see Randy, Kenny or Jens back behind the mic.

If anything, I can see them adding a 3rd person (fighter) that they consult with between fights/rounds but he doesn't actually speak during the fights. A sideline reporter, so to speak, along the lines of what Tony Siragusa does for Fox.

As long as it's not Stephan Bonnar or Frank Mir.

I totally agree. Bring in Bas Rutten! He is an awesome commentator. Randy would also be a good idea.

Bas is good, but he will not be seen in the UFC. He and Dana don't seem to see eye to eye. Couture and Jens Pulver are the best choices, since Randy's fighting days are numbered and Jens is retired. Rampage and Don Frye are hilarious, but not what Hughes is talking about. Florian and Mir still have a couple of years of fighting left.

In my opinion this is nothing but a #(#($* head move on Hughe's part.
Him and Joe have had a back and forth rivalry going for years now.
Matt has also been very vocal on how he is great friends with Mike Goldberg.

I'm not against the idea but get rid of Mikey G and have the team be Rogan and Bas,and keep hughes away from the broadcast booth.

1 - I would hope it's not Randy, personally. I tend to think he's too 'vanilla'.
2 - Jens isn't retired.
3 - Agreed in regards to Mir/Florian.

The context hughes brought this up on his website was the commentary during the shields vs kampmann fight. He thought rogan was being very biased towards shields and his ground game and not giving kampmann his due credit on the feet or for his submission attempts. regardless of whether u agree or not, rogan has been criticized in the past for biased commentary. Personally i like rogan as a commentator but i miss the days when randy was a part of the broadcast crew, i feel like his insight and his analysis was always spot on.

It would have to be a third or a replacement for Rogan since Goldie is the play by play (which actually takes a bit of skill beyond knowing the fight game). I didn't know Hughes and Rogan had a problem with each other anyone care to elaborate?

Their was a radio interview a while back and Hughes was asked something about Rogan and he pretty much said Rogan was an A-hole, and that he was very good friends with Mike Goldberg.
After his fight with Renzo in the post fight interview you may notice Hughes does something very bizarre and sick to Rogan.

http://forums.joerogan.net/showthread.php?t=54916

The video link doesn't work but the forum posters pretty much type it out and explain what Hughes said.
