"EA Sports MMA," the debut entry into the world of mixed martial arts video games from gaming giant Electronic Arts (EA), dropped for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 back on Oct. 19, 2010, featuring the San Jose-based Strikeforce promotion as the official "Premiere League."

The general consensus from Online reviews was that EA Sports MMA was a good, but not great, video game.

And apparently "good" just isn't "good enough," according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz (via CVG.com):

"EA is likely to back out of the mixed martial arts genre after its debut offering, EA Sports MMA, made a poor start at retail ... EA's recently released 'MMA' appears to be more or less DOA at retail, while UFC recently announced an extension of its license with THQ, likely putting an end to EA's efforts to expand into the mixed martial arts genre," the analyst said in a research note this morning."

That's a shame.

especially when EA put out a better product than the UFC and THQ in my opinion.

Absolutely. I've only played for a little bit, but it's already way less arcade like than Undisputed. I guess I'll have to stick to WMMA in the future.

So you're going to base your decision to buy it off of one article?

Wow. I could sell you the world.

I may be alone on this one, but THQ's game seemed much more developed and balanced than EA sports.

I kinda thought this would be the case, it's not UFC so only the more hardcore fans will buy it and it seems like we are pretty divided. I had it in my hand this weekend but I just couldn't shell out the 60 bones.

I did not like the way EA MMA felt when I was playing it. Also I thought the ground game was wayyyyyyyyyyyy to simple. I also have to agree with a statement made above looks like I'll be sticking to WMMA some more too.

sweet. I was planning on buying this used off ebay for like $20 six months from now. Maybe I can start shopping for it a little sooner than that now.

the character movements were arcadey and unrealistic. the transitions were awkward. the striking felt slow(so does THQ's game) and i felt like i was playing rock em sock em robots.

the one positive i'll give it is the character models looked mostly accurate and realistic.

over all i didn't like it. Undisputed was better but not by much. Just my opinion.

you're not alone. I thought EA MMA was right up there with the worst video games I've ever played. Considering the fact that this was produced by a major gaming company, that's pretty sad.

UFC Undisputed 2010 is way more accurate, realistic, and (most importantly) fun. But my feelings on UFC 2010 are pretty much a moot point, because EA MMA is so bad I wouldn't play it if it was the only MMA game ever produced.
