So he says...evev if it never means getting the UFC Light Heavyweight Title. "Absolutely not. If Rashad Evans won the belt, which I'm hoping he does, my only goal would be to be the toughest contender there is, and keep whipping butt without being champion. I'd stay at 205 and be the second best. That would be my goal. As I said, I'm hoping he wins, we're very proud of him. I couldn't [fight him], he's my mate. All my dreams and aspirations are in the light-heavyweight division, and I'm growing and getting older, but I have quite some time left in the light-heavyweight division. I have a good work ethic because of the wrestling, cutting weight comes easily to me, so I'll wait until weight-cutting becomes miserable before I step up."

I figured this would happen. Back when UFC Undisputed 2010 came out he posted his PS3 online name on his Twitter and let fans play against him. Well, I was lucky enough to have a chance to play him and when we were choosing fighters I quickly picked him to see what he'd say and he said something along the lines of "Oh oh that's cool man! I see you have a decent taste in fighters! Oh well I'm gonna get my boy Rashad and beat that ass!" and we got to talking (on mic of course) and I asked if there were any fighters he wouldn't fight or would be scared to fight. He mentioned he wouldn't fight Rashad and that they were close buddies. As for who he's scared of, he said he wasn't scared of anyone, that he's a fighter.

Isn't this why the UFC only used to have one or two fighters from each camp on the roster avoid basically crap like this?

It would probably be a shitty fight anyway, I can't think of one fight between current training partners that was bad ass with the exception to a few tuf fights

I'd love to see a fight between Pellegrino and Florian.

It's hard to blame anyone for not wanting to fight their good friends. He just doesn't have that mindset, and I really can't blame him one way or the other. I don't like fighting my friends either.

I've got no problem with him not wanting to fight his friend, but he would rarely ever get a fight if Rashad does win and he does this.

The UFC would never give him an up and comer or a title contender out of fear that he'd derail the train and then turn down the title shot himself. So he's left fighting cans and other gatekeepers until he decides to change weight classes or organizations.

Its going to get to the point where the UFC will contractually obligate each fighter they sign to train with a camp that only has 1 guy at each weight.

big mistake. Jones is better than Rashad at everything imo. Every camp should relize that pro's fight other pro's, and that not taking a fight may get u ish canned.

I've argued that they should have done this long ago. I realize that I'm in the minority on this issue, but if you want to be the best, you should fight whomever is in front of you, friend or not.

I guess one good thing about this is that Jones has expressed interest at one point or another about moving into the heavyweight division.

To me this screams of a lack of proffessionalism....to train with, and compete against the best fighters and coaches in the world should be at the heart of every UFC competitor. A proffessional can put aside emotions for the job.
