As he calls the "kettle" black...in other words, it's time for the England version of "Vaseline-Gate". "I only went for one takedown (at UFC 120) but Bisping's body was really slippery. Even if I do say so myself..." And if anyone has experience with being slippery, it's Akiyama, who cemented his status as one of Japan's biggest heels after going Exxon Valdez on Japanese hero Kazushi Sakuraba at K-1 Premium Dynamite!! in 2006.

He's the expert, so they might want to look into this.

I mean he did immediately start pointing at Bisping after the takedown attempt as to indicate he was slippery. It wasn't like he waited until the fight was over and started looking for excuses. His history of greasing or not is really irrelivent. If Bisping was greased then it should be addressed. If Akiyama is ever greased it should be addressed.

And Rousimar Palhares also thought Nate Marquardt was greased. Fighters need to stop making excuses.

Aren't corners no longer aloud to apply vasaline? And fighters are looked over prior the the fight by ringside officals proir to entering the octogon. So unless he took an Oil bath before the fight I don't see how Bisping coud get away with it.

I definitely understand your point and it's valid. Fighters need to stop trying to point out their opponents in the middle of the cage when they suspect they are greased. At the same time being covered in any slippery substance outside of sweat (which is what Marquardt claimed he was covered in) is a serious advantage especially against a Judo or BJJ guy. Akiyama shouldn't have taken time to point at Bisping for being greased, but to the best of my knowledge the attending athletic commission officials who check the fighters before they enter the cage have on gloves and are simply insuring they are protected i.e. mouthpiece/cup ect. I could be wrong, but I don't think they measure for slickness. I'm pretty sure Akiyama has thrown a lot of guys who had a good sweat going, and where I don't know whether or not Bisping was greased it's worth looking into and figuring out what adjustments we can make and perhaps regulating oil and lotions prior to fights.
