The battle for dominance between EA Sports and THQ in the MMA video game market could turn out to be a long one.

On the same day as the long awaited release of the EA Sports MMA video game, its competitor, THQ, announced Tuesday a contract extension with the UFC through 2018.

THQ, the makers of the 2009 and 2010 UFC Undisputed, will continue to hold exclusive and worldwide rights to publish UFC video games for another seven years on practically all platforms. Already on the PS3 and Xbox 360, THQ has the right to also create UFC games for next-gen gaming consoles, PC, mobile and the iPhone/iPad.

Haven't played the new EA game yet (probably won't until I can get it for $20 on ebay either). but simply can't be a good thing. Even if the first iteration of the EA game is sub par they've got a much better track record of improvement over the long haul. And both THQ games have been utter garbage so far.

Has anyone played the full version of the EA sports MMA game? I played the demo and wasn't very impressed I'd like to beleve the full version will be good, but after getting burned for 60 bucks on the UFC 2010 I'm hesitant to buy.

I didn't think the first installment of UFC: Undisputed was horrible at all. I mean, you have to remember, they are just getting the ACTUAL motor going on this type of game.

I seem to remember the first Madden for Super Nintendo and it REALLY sucked. I ran the same play over and over again and went undefeated. It didn't matter what level you played it on. Drop back like 15 yards with your QB and then take off and run. You'd pick up like 35 yards every time.

yes. I actually got it a few days early and posted videos all over EA's website.

It has its ups and downs but in my opinion the only thing THQ has over EA is CAF mode.

I heard the career mode for EA is awesome which is what I was expecting since fight night's career mode is great as well

I'm not much of a gamer but I thought Undisputed was pretty fun, and challenging if you fought at higher difficulties....I will probably get either 2010 or EA just to play a little then resell it to gamestop for my kids to get a game.

Both the THQ games are awesome when it comes to game play. I'm soundly convinced that there is no better way to do an MMA game than what they've done.

That said it's missing some bells and whistles. Career mode is boring and online can be glitchy/laggy. Most of the gameplay modes are shallow. Its most fun when either the online is working or you're playing against your friends at home.

It's not perfect but it's way better than that garbage that EA produced. I had absolutely no fun playing that game. If I can convince anyone not to buy it you will thank me for saving you your money. The gameplay has few redeeming qualities and all of them are overshadowed by the MANY MANY flaws in the game play.

i bought EA MMA yesterday, and I feel the game is more for me than Undisputed was. I bought both undisputed games and it felt too much like a arcade game compared to this one. I was getting pissed when I first played the demo because i kept trying to play it like Undisputed, but now i feel much more comfortable with this one.

The only things i think Undisputed has over this game is obviously the roster and the graphics.

The ground game isn't great but atleast i dont need an electric toothbrush to finally land a sub.

Picked up EA MMA yesterday and through four matches in career mode, I'm enjoying more than I ever enjoyed Undisputed.

As mentioned above, if EA has any success with this MMA game, THQ will be in trouble. I just wish that EA would have partnered with the UFC somehow, though I do enjoy playing with Zaromskis, even if Diaz is whipping my ass.

Thanks guys, how are the training mini games? Like the muy tai training they show on the commercial. And do you guys prefer the total strike control or the other control scheme, I couldn't do a thing with the total strike control.

To be honest, I've won all my fights by first round submission and have only thrown 5 strikes

I had a really hard time finding the, "sweet spot" on the chokes but the stamina subs were pretty easy. I thought the ground trasistioning was not as good as undisputed's. All and all the game seemed pretty clunky but I'll probably buy it after what you guys have said, might wait till I find it on amazon though.

This is how I felt. Too much of an arcade feel for Undisputed. And I hate how every fight almost always end in the 3rd. Their where many of times I had to hold back just to go to a decision.
